Inman was part of then-Lubbock Christian College's baseball program from 1977-1980, playing under legendary head coach Larry Hays.

A career .333 hitter, Inman is the Chaps all-time career leader in triples (26), and is second in walks (176), runs scored (275) and fourth in stolen bases with 119. The outfielder made LCU's 1970's All-Decade Team despite being limited to 19 games as a junior in 1979 due to a broken leg during the season.

Inman, a graduate of Uvalde High School in Uvalde, Texas, led the nation in runs scored in 1978 with 92. The 1977 All-Conference and All-District selection also claimed LCU's Freshman of the Year honor that season. He later went on to claim the program's Fighting Heart Award in 1979 after recovering from his injury.
