LCU History: Taking a Look at May 27

LCU Claimed National Runner-Up (Men's) at the NAIA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in 1995 On This Date

MAY 27 – We take a look at some of the top LCU athletic moments over the years from May 27. Pictured is Will Stramp (left) and Ross Blondin (right) greeting at home plate, as each homered in a 2009 NAIA World Series victory over Oklahoma City.

Baseball
  • The Chaps opened up
    15239
    Whitmore
play at the 2011 Avista NAIA World Series with a 7-2 win over Sooner Athletic Conference foe Oklahoma Baptist. Lucas Whitmore threw eight and a third innings of two-run ball, while six different Chaps drove in runs.
  • Coming off a loss to Point Loma, LCU dominated Oklahoma City 14-4 in the 2009 Avista NAIA World Series. The Chaps came out of the gate with five runs in the first inning in a game that featured home runs from Ross Blondin, Tyler Johnson and Will Stramp.
  • Lubbock Christian won for the second straight day at the 1991 NAIA World Series, beating Southern Arkansas 9-4. Brad Hill got the win on the mound, moving to 8-1 on the season.

Softball
  • As if hitting a
    Rendon
grand slam in the championship game of the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round to help No.2 LCU punch their ticket to the final site wasn't enough, Stephanie Rendon hit a two-out two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the Lady Chaparrals to a 4-2 win over No.9 seed St. Xavier University at the 2013 NAIA Softball Championships in Columbus, Ga. Rendon's home run overshadowed outstanding pitching performances from LCU's Courtney McGee and SXU's Nicole Nonnemacher. McGee is now 19-0 with the win and she struck out six batters in seven innings pitched. She did not allow an earned run off four hits.

Track & Field
  • Lubbock Christian came just 1.33 points short of claiming the 1995 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship, finishing as the National Runner-Up. Five individual 15241titles were won by Chap competitors, including the 100-meter and 200-meter by Daniel Effiong, the 5,000-meter and the 3,000-meter steeplechase by Simeon Sawe and the 10,000-meter by Julius Randich.
