PLAINVIEW, Texas (November 9, 2015) – Twenty-two points each from Lubbock Christian University's
Tyler Rogers and
Isaac Cardona guided the Chaparrals to a 91-82 exhibition win over Wayland Baptist Monday night at the Hutcherson Center in LCU's tune-up to the 2015-16 regular season.
Rogers showed a strong comeback after sitting out last season by connecting on 9-of-13 shots from the field that included a monstrous dunk in the first half and pair of three-pointers. Cardona hit six of his nine field goal attempts and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.
A.J. Luckey added 17 points and eight rebounds and
Marcus Arrington had 11 for LCU (0-0, 0-0 Heartland).
Brennen Fowler made his presence known in his Chap debut with eight points and three blocks.
Wayland Baptist (3-0, 0-0 Sooner Athletic Conference), the NAIA's 12
th-ranked team, opened the contest by going five-for-five from beyond the arc on their way to a 15-of-28 performance from deep, compared to a 5-of-16 from the Chaps.
The Chaps will begin the season at the RMAC/Heartland Challenge, hosted by Colorado School of Mines this Friday in Golden, Colo. LCU will open their agenda versus Regis University on the 13th at 7 p.m. followed by a contest against host team Mines the following day at 8 p.m.
