LUBBOCK, Texas (March 28, 2015) – A.J. Hermanson's two run home run sparked a four-run eighth inning and No. 23 St. Edward's University rallied to a 4-2 win over Lubbock Christian University Saturday to complete a three-game Heartland Conference series sweep over the Chaparrals at Hays Field.

Levi Westerlund had faced three batters over the minimum through seven innings and had held the Hilltoppers to three hits (did not give up a hit until the fourth inning). His success did not continue in the eighth inning. After Nate Turner reached on a one-out single in the eighth inning, Hermanson followed with a home run over the left field wall to tie the game 2-2. It was his fourth home run of the season.
Dalton Silva would later replace Westerlund in the inning and SEU's rally continued with three more hits, including an RBI base hit by Kevin Mayo for the lead before a bases loaded walk extended the lead to 4-2.
The Chaps had six hits through the first three innings, but was held to two hits the rest of the way and was unable to regain the lead. The Chaps had four hits in the second inning and a single through the left side by
Brett Wilhelm had LCU with a 1-0 lead. A SEU error and passed ball set up a RBI for
Wade Stramp and LCU built a 2-0 lead before the late inning comeback for SEU.
Harris led SEU with a 2-for-3 plate appearance in the game.
Jose Favela was 2-for-4 to lead LCU. Westerlund was saddled with the loss and fell to 1-5 on the season. He allowed three runs off five hits in 7.1 innings. Cameron Stanton, son of former big leaguer Mike Stanton, started for SEU and went without a decision going six innings and allowing one run off seven hits. Reliever Vinny Whitenight claimed the win (2-0) allowing an unearned run off one hit in two innings.
The loss was LCU's first this season when leading after the third inning of play. SEU completed the sweep marking the first time LCU has been swept at home in a Heartland Conference series. LCU fell to 15-16 overall and they are 3-7 in conference. The loss was their sixth consecutive conference loss. SEU improved to 24-8 overall and 10-2 in conference. LCU remains home Tuesday and will host Eastern New Mexico at 6 p.m.
