CANYON, Texas (February 13, 2016) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparral softball team used three home runs in the first game of the day to top Angelo State 5-1 and then fell to Texas Woman's 1-0 in game two to earn a split on Day Two of the WT Invitational Saturday hosted by West Texas A&M University.
THE LONG BALL
In game one, the Lady Chaps (9-4) used three home runs by
Lindzi Clemmer,
Molly Davison and
Liz Torres to drive in all five of their runs. All three took place in the top of the second inning to give LCU a 5-0 lead. The last time the Lady Chaps had three homeruns in one inning was April 2, 2015, against Oklahoma Panhandle State when the team hit three in the first inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning Angelo State (6-3) plated one run as Becky Wilhelm, who reached on an error, was driven in by Kelly Johnson to make the score 5-1.
IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie pitched the complete game for LCU in game one to notch her sixth win of the season. Eltsosie allowed one unearned run on four hits and struck out five Rambelles. Kenedy Urbany (3-2) went the distance in the loss for ASU giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out eight Lady Chaps.
PITCHERS' DUEL
Game two against the Pioneers of Texas Woman's (8-7) proved to be a true pitchers' duel as the game went to the seventh inning without either team plating a run. In the top half of the seventh the Pioneers tallied a run off an inside-the-park homerun by Lindy Kennedy as the ball ricocheted off the fence back towards the infield allowing her to circle the bases. The lone run would be all TWU would need to take the 1-0 win.
Ashton Bell (1-2) pitched a notable game by striking out seven but suffered her second loss of the year. Hailey Dixon (1-3) picked up her first win for the Pioneers by allowing only three hits to go with three walks and three strikeouts.
