Flock of homers lead to sweep

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 12, 2016) – Five different Lady Chaps hit home runs on the day to lead Lubbock Christian University to a 13-4 and 12-0 doubleheader sweep of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin Saturday at PlainsCapital Park.

GRAND
Lubbock Christian (26-7, 7-2 Heartland) jumped on top early by scoring six runs in the first inning. Lindzi Clemmer hit her second home run of the year to lead off the game. Then four batters later the bases were loaded for Liz Torres who drew a walk to plate Sammie Murrietta. The Falcons (2-22, 0-8 Heartland) changed pitchers, which brought Katera Eltsosie up to bat with the bases loaded and no outs where she launched her second home run of the season to put LCU up 6-0. UTPB got on the board by scoring one run in the top of the second when Cyera Quintana grounded out to drive in Daisy Aguilar.

MORE BOMBS
In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Chaps put up four more runs with two coming off the bat of Molly Davison when she hit a two-run rocket over the right field fence. The other two runs came in on a fielding error by the Falcon first baseman to put LCU up 10-1 after two innings of play. In the top of the fifth, UTPB scored three runs before the Lady Chaps scored three of their own in the bottom half of the inning when Liz Torres hit a two-run bomb for a walk-off, run-ruled 13-4 victory.

THREE'S A CROWD
The Falcons used three pitchers in game one with Chelsae Faries (0-6) getting the start and facing five batters without garnering an out. Faries allowed five runs on three hits giving up two walks. RustieAnne Spinks came in and threw one-and-a-third innings allowing four runs on four hits while also walking two Lady Chaps. Kim Alonzo pitched the final three innings giving up four runs as well, off of six hits. Eltsosie (14-3) went the distance to notch her 13th victory of the 2016 season while giving up seven hits, walking three Falcons and striking out four.

FAST START AGAIN
Game two saw the Lady Chaps plate six runs in the first inning to once again jump out to a big lead. Morgan Colburn doubled to score Clemmer from first base, Addison Ard doubled to score Davison and Colburn before Ashton Bell reached on a fielder's choice to plate Torres, and Sydney Beuthien doubled to bring home Bell and Ard. LCU added a run in the second inning when Davison doubled to right-center to score Colburn. In the third inning, the Lady Chaps extended the lead to 8-0 off the bat of Bell when she hit her fourth home run of the season. Four more runs would cross the plate for LCU in the fourth with Ard doubling to score Davison and Colburn and Katlin Reed hitting a ball through the left side driving in pinch runner Shelby Welch. The final run came home when Ard scored on a wild pitch.
