LUBBOCK, Texas (March 4, 2016) – Twenty Lady Chaps participated in 11-6 and 22-8 wins over Rogers State at PlainsCapital Park on Friday with 10 Lady Chaps registering hits and 15 scoring runs.
HIT PARADE
LCU (21-7) had sixteen hits in game one led by
Molly Davison who went 4-for-4 with her eighth home run of the year.
Lindzi Clemmer,
Morgan Colburn and
Katera Eltsosie each had three hits in the game with Eltsosie hitting her first home run of the season and Colburn launching her nation-leading 13
th.
Liz Torres,
Katlin Reed and
Ashton Bell each recorded a hit in the game as well. Rogers State (8-14) tallied nine hits in the game leading to six runs that were scored in two innings - two in the first and four in the third.
IN THE CIRCLE
Eltsosie (12-3) totaled her 12
th win of the year by going the distance in game one. The redshirt junior allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out five Hillcat batters. Jessica Christian (4-8) came in with one out in the first inning for RSU and suffered her eighth loss of the season, allowing nine runs on 13 hits. Mayra Helguera earned the start in the circle for the Hillcats but lasted only one-third of an inning while giving up two runs on three hits and facing only five batters.
CLEAR THE BENCH
Head coach
Daren Hays exhausted his lineup card in game two by using 19 Lady Chaps in the game. Davison and Torres were each a perfect 2-for-2 in the game with Davison hitting her ninth home run of the season and second of the day while Clemmer, Reed and Bell had multihit games as well. Sammie Murietta, Colburn, Eltsosie,
Roxy Curiel and Savannah Luke all garnered hits in the five-inning, run-ruled victory.
TEAMWORK
Katlyn Holmes (7-2) and
Abbi White each appeared in the circle for the Lady Chaps during the second game with Holmes picking up her seventh victory of the season. Holmes pitched the first four innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. White pitched the fifth inning, allowing four runs on four hits. In the loss, the Hillcats used three different pitchers. Game two starter, Rachel Jones (4-3), suffered the loss by pitching two-and-two-thirds innings while allowing nine runs on five hits and walking six Lady Chaps. Jessica Christian made an appearance in game two by going one inning and allowing nine runs on seven hits, walking one. Game one starter Helguera threw one-third of an inning, allowing four runs on three hits and walking one.
