LUBBOCK, Texas (February 11, 2017) – No.6 Lubbock Christian University scored 10 unanswered runs and claimed the four-game series against Adams State with a 14-4 win Saturday at Hays Field.
LCU had all eight of the game's extra-base hits, with
Jaime Bustamante hitting a double and a triple to extend his hit streak to eight games.
Ryan Rogers led LCU with three (3-for-5) of their 14 hits in the game.
Chaps starting pitcher
Russell Reber had an intriguing outing against the Grizzlies. He allowed four runs off five hits in seven innings and all the hits and runs came in the four-run Grizzlies half of the third inning. Outside of the third inning, Reber faced one batter over the minimum while improving to 2-0 on the season.
Trailing 4-1 in the third inning, LCU's bats came alive.
Caleb Koedyker hit a two-run home run during a three-run inning to tie the contest at 4-4.
Josh Narvaiz helped LCU regain the lead with a triple in a two-run fourth inning. They held the lead the rest of the way and mixed in a five-run sixth inning for a 12-4 lead. Three of the five runs were driven home by a bases loaded double from Rogers.
Casey Weber started on the mound for ASU and allowed seven runs (six earned) off eight hits in five innings. He struck out six LCU batters while falling to 0-1.Weber was one of five pitchers used by ASU.
LCU improved to 7-1 with the win over Adams State, who fell to 3-5. The Chaps will return to the diamond Friday, on the road in San Angelo, Texas for a three-game series with Angelo State.
