LUBBOCK, Texas (March 21, 2017) - No.16 Lubbock Christian University produced 24 singles leading to a 22-0 non-conference win over University of the Southwest (N.M.) Tuesday night at Hays Field.
The 22-0 victory matched the Chaps second biggest margin of victory in a shutout win, matching a 22-0 victory over Iowa Wesleyan on Mar. 28, 1980. The largest shutout win in program history was a 25-0 win over College of Santa Fe on Mar. 17, 2009.

Tuesday, LCU received hits from 14 different players and the only players for LCU without a hit that had an at-bat were
Russell Reber and
Collin Fraley, who are pitchers that were batting for the first time in their LCU career.
Tony Reyes and
Ryan Rogers each went 4-for-6 to lead LCU with four hits. The Chaps produced 24 hits, which marked the most since hitting 25 on Apr. 20, 2010 against Southern Nazarene.

All 24 LCU hits were singles. It culminated into LCU having 38 at-bats with runners on base, 32 at-bats with runners in scoring position and 14 at-bats with the bases loaded. LCU also had 11 batters reach on walks, marking the most free passes since walking 11 times on Mar. 7, 2015 against Newman.

The Chaps scored in every inning except the first and eighth inning, with inning highs of five runs coming in the fourth and fifth innings. LCU, who could have added to their run totals (stranded 15 runners), finished the game with their highest run total since scoring 23 on Feb. 6, 2015 against New Mexico Highlands.

While the offense was providing fireworks, the Chaps committee of pitchers did their part by combining to hold the mustangs to five hits in the shutout win.
Brent Bezio (2-2) went the opening four innings and recorded the win.Â

Brennen Fowler,
Colton Blackford and EJ Rams combined with Bezio for the shutout. Buatte was making his season debut and Fowler made his LCU baseball debut. The two-sport star (All-Heartland Conference basketball selection) struck out the side in his one-inning appearance. The pitchers strung together a sequence of 19 batters faced without allowing a hit in the game.

LCU improved to 18-8 with the win, while USW fell to 17-13. The Chaps, who were playing in their first home game in March, remain home Friday to host St. Mary's for a Heartland Conference series. First pitch against the Heartland Conference standing leaders is scheduled for a 3 p.m. doubleheader start.
