Wichita, Kansas (March 24, 2017) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps held a 6-2 lead over the Newman Jets after five innings of play at the Newman Softball Field in Wichita Kansas when an electrical storm moved in forcing a delay and eventually calling the game complete with the teams unable to re-take the field.
BEHIND
The Lady Chaps (20-10) trailed 0-1 after one inning of play with Newman (7-26) getting on the board first. LCU would respond in the second inning when
Addison Ard drove in
Alyssa Hanks. However, the Jets scored a run in the third inning to once again take the lead 2-1.
TWO OUT RALLY
With two outs in the fourth inning the Lady Chaps got busy
Haley Hardison had a pinch-hit single to right field to bring home
Sara Ralston followed by a double off the bat of
Sydney Beuthien to plate
Averi Miller and Hardison. Then a double-steal allowed
Adelae Vayas to steal second and Beuthien to steal home. Hanks would double to center field to bring in Vayas and cap the scoring with LCU up 6-2.
MOVED
The Jets would be retired in order in the bottom of the fifth before the umpires sent both teams out of the park because of lightening. The storm would prevent the teams from returning giving the Lady Chaps the 6-2 victory and moving the second game of the doubleheader to Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
HOLMES
Katlyn Holmes (4-0) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps and went the distance allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four Jets to notch her fourth victory of the season. Jensen Cromer (4-12) got the start for the Jets lasting only 3.2 innings giving up six runs on eight hits to suffer her 12
th loss of the year. Kate Smith came in to pitch the final 1.1 innings for Newman.
