Lady Chaps Dismantle Aggies for Doubleheader Sweep

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 14, 2017) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals swept the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University 10-2 and 17-3 in two, run-ruled shortened games Friday at PlainsCapital Park on the LCU campus.
 
BEHIND
The Lady Chaps (28-14) found themselves behind early when Darcie Wilson and Anyssa Barbosa hit back-to-back, solo-home runs for Panhandle State (11-31) in the top of the second inning. LCU would respond plating three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead with Lindzi Clemmer scoring off an Alyssa Hanks double, Hanks scoring off the bat of Courtney Medina and Medina scoring when Casey Ingram lined a ball up the middle.
 
MORE
Lubbock Christian added more runs with one in the third inning when Katera Eltsosie hit a rocket over the center field fence, one in the fourth inning when Sydney Beuthien scored on a throwing error by the Aggies and five more in the fifth inning. Logan Grado drove in Clemmer to get the scoring started in the fifth inning. Annika Schwartzenberg singled through the left side to bring home Hanks and Averi Miller. Eltsosie drove in Medina before Haley Hardison hit a sacrifice fly to plate Schwartzenberg for the walk-off run-ruled victory.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Katera Eltsosie (14-5) started in the circle for LCU going the distance allowing only two run off three hits while striking out four to notch her 14th win of the season. Julia Ibarra (6-15) got the start for the Aggies also going the distance giving up 10 runs on 15 hits suffering her 15th loss of 2017.
 
THREE
In game two the Lady Chaps only scored in three of the four innings they batted, jumping on top early with a three- run second inning. Roxy Curiel got things started with a double to left center field to plate Addison Ard. Schwartzenberg would follow driving in Hanks before Clemmer's shot up the middle brought Curiel in to score putting LCU up 3-0.
 
SIX-EIGHT
A six-run third inning followed by an eight-run fourth inning would put the Lady Chaps up 17-0 going into the fifth inning. All in all, 18 different Lady Chaps would see action in the final two innings of the game. Shelby Welch would take advantage of the pinch-hit opportunity driving in a run and later scoring one herself. Pitcher, Katlyn Holmes, got a rare pinch-hit shot, as well, drawing a bases loaded walk to notch a run-batted-in. Cassie Sutton, another Lady Chap pitcher, would also see the rare pinch-hit appearance and also draw a bases loaded walk for an RBI. Sondra Samaniego and Logan Grado each got hits when they pinch-hit with both driving in runs.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Monique Garcia (9-6) started in the circle for LCU pitching four innings allowing only no runs on two hits striking out three to earn her ninth victory this season. Cassie Sutton would pitch the final inning for Lubbock Christian allowing three runs off two hits. Brissa Rivera (0-2) got the start for Panhandle State throwing all four innings giving up 17 runs on 15 hits while walking four Lady Chaps to suffer her second loss of the year.

The Lady Chaps will wrap-up play against the Aggies Saturday, which will also be Senior Day to honor the four seniors on the team.
