Lady Chaps Shutout Dustdevils to Close Out Regular Season

LAREDO, Texas (April 29, 2017) – Katera Eltsosie pitched one-hit ball and hit a home run and Sydney Beuthien homered twice to help Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals close out the regular season with a 6-0 shutout win over Texas A&M International Saturday in a Heartland Conference contest at Dustdevil Softball Field on the TAMIU campus.
 
DUEL
Neither team could get a run on the scoreboard through the first four innings, as the two teams combined for six hits over the span (Lady Chaps (35-16) had five hits at that point and TAMIU (18-33) had one).
 
EXPLOSION
In the fifth inning, Sydney Beuthien hit a solo-home run to get LCU on the scoreboard. Addison Ard led off the sixth inning with a blast over the left field fence before the Lady Chaps poured it on in the seventh inning. Courtney Medina led off the seventh inning with a double, followed by a triple off the bat of Casey Ingram to score Medina. Beuthien followed with her second home run of the game; a two-run bomb followed by a home run over the center field fence by Eltsosie to complete the scoring.
 
SHUTOUT
Katera Eltsosie (18-5) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps and went six scoreless innings allowing one hit. She struck out six batters and faced one batter over the minimum to notch her 18th victory of the season. Monique Garcia came in to pitch the final inning keeping the shutout intact retiring the Dustdevils in order. Delainy Thompson (12-14) got the start for TAMIU, pitching six innings and giving up five runs on eleven hits over the span to suffer her 14th loss of 2017. Sara Caterson came in to pitch the final inning and gave up one run on one hit.
 
ALAMO CITY
The Lady Chaps will now head to San Antonio, Texas for the Heartland Conference Tournament. The Lady Chaps will be the 2-seed in the five-team tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday. You can follow the Lady Chaps postseason play at www.lcuchaps.com.
