Deja Vu For Chaps, as First Win of the Season Comes Against Adams State

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
• Lubbock Christian University men's soccer captured their first win of the 2017 season Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 result over Adams State University.
• Each team was called for six fouls on the day resulting in nine cards, six yellow and three red. In the 80th minute, a scuffle led to three red cards and LCU played shorthanded (10v9) the final 10:17 of the contest. 
Parker O'Quinn made his first start in goal for the Chaps and posted a huge save, in the 54th minute, on an ASU penalty kick to keep Lubbock Christian's lead in tact.
Abdou Joof struck on a game-winner for his second goal of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The ball was played into the 18-yard box, before Joof ripped a shot that found the lower left corner of the goal. His strike was the lone goal of the contest.
• O'Quinn provided a clutch save for LCU on a penalty kick from Adams State's Ruben Molinar to keep the Grizzlies off the scoreboard.

GAME NOTES
• The result gives the Chaps their first win of the 2017 season and moves LCU to a 1-3-0 overall record heading into Heartland Conference play.
• O'Quinn's save marks the fourth penalty kick save in program history and the first since the 2015 season.
• Lubbock Christian's win over Adams State marks the second season in a row that the Chaps dealt the Grizzlies their first loss of the year.
• O'Quinn's shutout marks the first of his LCU career and the 29th in program history for the Chaps.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
27: The Chaps have gone 27 games since their last save in a penalty kick situation. The previous penalty kick save came in the final minutes of a 3-2 loss to Newman University (10/15/15).

UP NEXT
The Chaparrals will now look to their Heartland Conference opening match at Rogers State Thursday, Sept. 14. The contest will be held at RSU's Soldier Field in Claremore, Okla. with kickoff set for 5 p.m. Lubbock Christian holds a 5-1-3 record over the Hillcats. Their last meeting came at the beginning of the 2016 season, where LCU gathered a 2-0 win (9/15/16).
