Chaps Out-Struck by Rattlers on the Road

LCU HIGHLIGHTS
- Despite a last-minute goal, Lubbock Christian University fell on the road Saturday afternoon against St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.
- Fernando Flores led the Chaparral attack logging two of LCU's five shots on the day.
- Braxton Thorne completed a season-high 12 saves for Lubbock Christian on 17 shots faced.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- St. Mary's struck first just after the halftime break on a shot from Martin Ibarreche who was assisted by Carlos Blasco. 
- St. Mary's leading scorer Pato Botello Faz put the Rattlers up by two with 10 minutes to play on a penalty kick.
- Fernando Flores was finally able to place the Chaps in the scoring column in the final minute of play with a penalty kick of his own the whizzed by the St. Mary's goalkeeper. 

GAME NOTES
- Two of the game's three goals were converted from the penalty spot.
- Braxton Thorne completed seven saves for the Chaps in the first half alone.
- Lubbock Christian moves to a 7-5-3 overall mark and a 5-4-3 record in Heartland Conference matches.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
12: Braxton Thorne's 12 saves ties for the second most in a contest for the Chaps. His performance marks the most saves recorded in a match since Fernando Rios-Trevino accomplished the feat in the 2016 season.
 
UP NEXT
The Chaps will continue their road trip traveling to Portales, N.M. for a showdown against West Division rival Eastern New Mexico University. Kickoff against the Greyhounds is set for 8 p.m. (central) inside Greyhound Stadium.
