SAN ANTONIO, Texas (November 10, 2018) – Brennan Fowler capped a double-double (23 points and 10 rebounds) with 17 points in the second half and helped Lubbock Christian University go on a 17-3 run to overcome an 11-point deficit in the second half to claim a 63-58 win over No.18 Regis University (Colo.) Saturday night inside Bill Greehey Arena.
The Chaparrals improved to 2-0 for the first time since the start of the 2010-2011 season and their win over a nationally ranked squad was their fourth win over a ranked squad since moving to NCAA Division II (4-11).
The Rangers led throughout most of the first half. They never trailed in the half once taking a 5-4 lead with 17:22 left in the half, but LCU threatened by overcoming a pair of six-point deficits to tie the game on four occasions (in the half).
Ja'Qualyn Gilbreath was able to receive an outlet pass, in transition, with three seconds left in the half and drive to convert a layup, as the buzzer sounded to end the half, to tie the game at the half 25-25.
Regis opened the second half with a field goal and it sparked a 15-4 run over the opening six minutes of the half to take a 40-29 lead. Trailing 46-36 with 11:00 left, Fowler hit a jumper to start the LCU comeback and a 17-3 run. The run, paced by seven points from Fowler and six from
Silas Crisler, included a three-pointer by Fowler with 8:38 remaining to give LCU the lead (49-48). LCU built their lead to 60-52 before the 63-58 final, as LCU outscored RU 38-33 in the second half.
The Chaps and Rangers each had 13 turnovers, but LCU capitalized with a 15-7 scoring advantage in points-off-turnovers. Fowler was 8-of-14 from the field, going 3-of-4 from long range. LCU hit 47.1% from three-point range (8/17), with Crisler going 4-of-7 to finish with 12 points. Gilbreath finished with 18 points, with 11 points tallied in the first half.
Regis, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason favorites, were led by Brian Dawson, who scored 14 points (all tallied in the first half off 5-of-8 shooting). They also had 12 points from Jarrett Brodbeck and 10 points from Christian Little. Brodbeck, who set Regis' single-season three-point field goals record last season (99), was 1-of-12 Saturday from long distance. The Rangers were also 1-of-12 (8.3%) as a team in the second half from beyond the arc.
TURNING POINT
LCU went 6-of-7 from the field during their 17-3 run. The Chaps, who were 6-of-10 (60%) from three-point range in the second half, was 3-of-3 during the streak, with Crisler hitting back-to-back attempts to highlight the offensive surge.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
40% - Each team shot less than 40% in the game, with LCU shooting 39.3% and Regis hitting at a 36.7% rate. It is the first time since Dec. 2, 2017 (against Arkansas – Fort Smith) in which both teams shot under 40% in the game. It was the only occurrence last season

Cameron Copley made his LCU debut Saturday. The redshirt-freshman from Canadian, Texas did not have a shot attempt, but had five assists and one turnover in 17 minutes of play.
