Lady Chaps Comeback to Earn Split on Day Two

LCU leaves 13 stranded in game one before a late come from behind rally to take game two.

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 3, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps left 13 runners stranded in game one falling to Midwestern State 6-4 before using a four-run sixth inning rally to come from behind and take game two 9-7 over Colorado School of Mines.
 
BEHIND EARLY
The Mustangs (2-1) got on the scoreboard first plating a run in the second inning. LCU (3-1) answered in the bottom half of the inning when Lindzi Clemmer led off the inning with a bomb over the left field fence. Three batters later Sara Ralston scored off the bat of Averi Miller.
 
HOMERS
Two two-run home runs in the third inning by the Mustangs put Midwestern up 5-2. The Lady Chaps followed with two runs in the bottom half of the inning when Morgan Dufour hit rocket over the center field fence and Clemmer was able to cross the plate on a wild pitch to cut the lead to two runs. MSU tacked on an insurance run in the sixth inning to complete the scoring.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Taylor Hinojos (0-1) got her first start as a Lady Chap going 2.1 innings giving up five runs off six hits and striking out one to suffer her first loss. Clarissa Martinez came in and threw 4.2 innings in relief allowing only one run and striking out two Mustangs. Gracie Bogle started in the circle for Midwestern throwing 3.2 innings four runs on six hits before giving way to Abbie Lancaster (1-1) who threw the last 3.1 innings not allowing any runs and only two hits to earn her first victory of 2018.
 
AHEAD EARLY
The Lady Chaps started the second game scoring three runs in the first inning. Sydney Beuthien knocked in Courtney Medina to start the scoring followed by Haley Hardison driving in Megan Darling and Casey Ingram drawing a bases-loaded walk to bring home Dufour. LCU added two more runs in the second to take a 5-0 lead when Dufour doubled off the center field fence plating Medina and Darling.
 
E-E-E
Lubbock Christian was plagued by errors in the third inning giving up three runs off three errors. The Orediggers (2-2) added another run in the fourth inning off a Megan Dickson leadoff home run. Colorado School of Mines plated three more runs in the sixth inning to take a two run lead 7-5.
 
COMEBACK
In the bottom of the sixth inning pinch hitter Logan Grado led off the inning with a bomb down the left field line. Then with two outs the Lady Chaps added three more runs with Clemmer's single to bring in Darling, Hardison's hot shot to right-center field to plate Dufour and Clemmer scoring off the bat of Adelae Vayas to put the Lady Chaps ahead 9-7.
 
MO
Monique Francois (2-0) got the start for the Lady Chaps in the circle going the distance allowing only four earned runs off nine hits while striking out three Orediggers on way to her second victory this year. Hallie Smith (1-1) started for Mines giving up nine runs off 12 hits while walking three to suffer her first loss of the season.
 
BACK IN ACTION
The Lady Chaps are back in action on Tuesday at PlainsCapital Park as they host Sul Ross State in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
