SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 9, 2018) – Errors hurt the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals, as they fell twice to St. Mary's on the road Friday, losing both games 2-1 at the Softball Stadium in The Park on the campus of StMU.
ERRORS
With
Megan Darling scoring on a passed ball in the fourth inning, the Lady Chaps (13-7, 4-4) were up 1-0 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. A throwing error and a muffed throw allowed two runs to score and gave the Rattlers (18-6, 8-0) the walk-off win in the home half of the seventh inning.
IN THE CIRCLE
Monique Francois (8-3) started in the circle for LCU. She suffered her third loss of the season despite allowing two hits in a complete game effort. Staci Johns (9-2) started in the circle for the Rattlers and registered a complete game victory for her ninth win of the year. She gave up one run off two hits while striking out eight Lady Chaps.
BEHIND
St. Mary's got on the scoreboard first in game two driving in a run in the fourth inning. The Lady Chaps responded in the top of the seventh inning with
Sara Ralston scoring on a fielding error by the Rattler shortstop. Once again, StMU was able to get a run across in the bottom of the seventh inning off a two-out single from Hannah Michel to take the second game in a walk-off as well.
IN THE CIRCLE
Amber Carlton started game two for LCU, throwing four innings and allowing one run off four hits. She struck out three Rattlers.
Taylor Hinojos (0-2) pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits for her second loss of 2018. Hope Russell (8-2) was the starting pitcher for the Rattlers and she pitched all seven innings giving up one run off five hits to earn her eighth victory of the season.
