KK’s Grand Day Haunts Lady Eagles on Friday the 13th

LCU tallied seven home runs on the day, three from KK Lopez-Lui to sweep OC.

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 13, 2018) – The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals hit seven home runs Friday, with KK Lopez-Lui hitting a grand slam in the second game to sweep Oklahoma Christian 11-3 and 13-2 in two run-ruled shortened contests at PlainsCapital Park.
 
EARLY
The Lady Chaps (26-11, 15-8) scored early, plating two runs in the first inning with Sydney Beuthien doubling to left centerfield to score Lindzi Clemmer and K'leigh Arredondo driving in Beuthien. LCU scored five more runs in the second inning, starting with Sara Ralston scoring off the bat of Megan Darling, followed by a three-run home run by Clemmer. Beuthien continued the offensive charge for LCU with a rocket over the left field fence. Lubbock Christian added four more runs in the third inning to take an 11-0 lead, with the first two runs coming off the bat of Beuthien, who knocked in Darling and Clemmer. The last two runs scored when Lopez-Lui hit a two-run missile into the teeth of the wind for her first home run of the day.
 
TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE
Oklahoma Christian (25-21, 14-9) managed two runs in the fourth inning, with pinch runner Stevee McMillin and Hunter Strickland both scoring on a Kirsten Scott single to centerfield. The Lady Eagles added one run in the fifth inning with Madison Nordyke scoring on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bridget White.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Monique Francois (19-3) started in the circle for the Lady Chaps, throwing all five innings and allowing three runs off five hits. She struck out five Lady Eagles to notch her 19th victory of the season. Madison Hagood (9-10) started in the circle for the Lady Eagles, but only lasted one inning, as she surrendered six runs on five hits to suffer her 10th loss of the year. Madison Nordyke pitched two innings in relief, giving up five runs on six hits, before giving way to Hannah Andrews, who pitched the final inning.
 
GRAND
Beuthien started the scoring in the second game, driving in Darling with a ball hit to the fence in center field in the first inning. Two batters later with the bases loaded, Lopez-Lui hit her second home run of the day, a grand slam bomb over the centerfield fence. The Lady Chaps added eight more runs in the second inning off a three-run home run by Beuthien, a two-run homer by Lopez-Lui and a three-run home run by Annika Schwartzenberg. The Lady Eagles were able to get two runs in the fourth inning with Nordyke scoring on a Kaylie Upton single and a Lacey Davidson double to drive in White.
 
IN THE CIRCLE
Taylor Hinojos (1-3) started game two in the circle for the Lady Chaps, pitching the complete game and allowing two runs off five hits. Once again, the Lady Eagles utilized three pitchers in the game with Kaylie Upton (11-4) getting the start. Upton lasted 1.1 innings giving up nine runs off four hits, while walking three batters and hitting another, to suffer her fourth loss of 2018. Hannah Andrews faced five batters, giving up four runs off three hits (walked two batters) and failing to record an out. Game one starter, Hagood, came in to pitch the final 2.2 innings, allowing two hits and walking two more Lady Chaps.
