Lindzi Clemmer's two-run home run in the sixth inning of game two broke open a scoreless game leading to a 4-0 Lady Chap win Friday at PlainsCapital Park.
AHEAD EARLY
The Lady Chaps (30-15, 17-12) built a 5-0 lead in game one with the first two runs coming in the second inning with
Morgan Dufour hitting her Heartland Conference leading 16
th home run of the season and then later in the inning
K'leigh Arredondo stealing home on a double steal with Arredondo touching home plate prior to
Sara Ralston getting caught stealing second base. LCU added two more runs in the third inning off a
Lindzi Clemmer's first two-run home run of the day. Ralston drove in
Averi Miller in the fourth inning to put LCU up 5-0.
COMEBACK
The Dustdevils had a two-out grand slam home run in the fifth inning by Cassie Cannon after a Lady Chap fielding error extended the inning. TAMIU added two more runs in the sixth inning when Alyssa Acuna hit a two-run shot over the left field fence. The Dustdevils plated two additional runs in the seventh inning off two more Lady Chap errors to cap their comeback. Of the eight unanswered runs, six were unearned due to LCU errors.
IN THE CIRCLE
Monique Francois (21-6) started the game in the circle for Lubbock Christian pitching the complete game allowing only two earned runs off 10 hits striking out five Dustdevils to suffer her sixth loss of the season. Sara Caterson got the start for Texas A&M International throwing the first four innings giving up five runs off six hits before giving way to Tori Carrion (1-2) who pitched a perfect fifth inning to earn her first win of the year. Melanie Lint pitched the final two innings for the Dustdevils not allowing a run to earn her first save of the season.
SCORELESS
Through the first five and a half innings of game two neither team managed to push a run across the plate. In the bottom of the sixth inning Clemmer hit a two-out, two-run home run to put the Lady Chaps on the board before Dufour hit a double to right field three batters later to drive in
Logan Grado and
Sydney Beuthien to put LCU up 4-0.
IN THE CIRCLE
Taylor Hinojos (3-4) started game two in the circle earning her third victory and first complete game shutout of the season. Delainy Thompson (10-14) pitched the whole game giving up four runs off seven hits for her 14
th loss of the year.
SENIOR DAY
The final game of the regular season is set for Saturday at noon. As soon as the game ends the seven Lady Chap seniors will be honored.
