- Brooke Makemson went 2-for-2 with an RBI-triple.
- Athena Muniz went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
- LCU improved to 4-0 when facing nationally ranked teams.
Turning Point:
Brooke Makemson's two-out triple into the right-centerfield gap in the fourth inning provided the Lady Chaps the first run of the game.
How it Happened:
- With two outs and Alexa Riggs at first base (running for Alivia Villarreal), Brooke Makemson roped a line drive to fence in right-centerfield and Riggs scored all the way from first base.
- Following the Makemson triple, Athena Muniz blooped in a single to right field to plate Makemson for a 2-0 lead.
- TSU, who stranded eight, had the tying-run represented at the plate in the top of the seventh inning, but Franco was able to close the game out with a pair of strikeouts in the inning, including a called third strike to the final batter Hallie Saintignan.
Inside the Numbers:
- Taylor Franco went 7.0 innings and allowed seven hits (all singles) and struck out eight batters to improve to 8-2 on the season. She forced TSU into 12 groundouts (one flyout) on a windy day in which the wind was howling out. The complete game was her fifth of the season and 13th of her career, and the complete game shutout was her third of the season and sixth of her career.
- LCU improved to 5-7 all-time against TSU (2-1 in Lubbock).
- TSU was 1-for-7 in RBI opportunities at the plate, going 3-for-15 with runners on base.
- Jordan Withrow (7-3) went the distance in the circle (6.0 innings) and allowed two runs off four hits in the loss for TSU.
- LCU was 0-for-6 getting the leadoff batter aboard, while TSU was 4-for-7.
- Makemson's triple was her second of the season and the Lady Chaps sixth triple produced this season.
- LCU's shutout win was their fifth shutout win of the season.
Game 2 – LCU vs. WT
LCU Highlights:
- LCU fell despite a 10-4 hit advantage.
- Brooke Makemson went 3-for-3 with an RBI-double.
- Athena Muniz singled in a run and went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Turning Point:
LCU went 0-for-3 at the plate with the bases loaded. WT's Emilee Wilson recorded five strikeouts, producing four of the strikeouts against LCU's bottom three of the order, and was able to get inning-ending strikeouts in the third and fourth innings, as LCU left the bases loaded.
How it Happened:
- A bases-loaded walk forced by Brooke Makemson in the bottom of the third inning tied the game 1-1.
- The game was not tied long, as Ruby Salzman hammered a homer to right field to leadoff the top of the fourth inning, allowing the Lady Buffs to regain the lead at 2-1.
- Angela Donaldson drove in a run in the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 3-2, but again WT had a response the following inning (sacrifice fly by Steph Elliott put WT up 4-2 in the sixth inning).
- LCU had three hits in the bottom of the seventh inning and had the winning-run aboard base (tying run at third base) after a Makemson double made it a one-run game, but a fielder's choice ended the game.
Inside the Numbers:
- Jordan Wehr suffered her first loss of the season (5-1), allowing four runs off four hits in six innings. Emilee Wilson registered the win (2-3), allowing three runs (two earned) off 10 hits in a complete game effort (seven innings). She struck out five batters.
- LCU is now 9-14 all-time against WT (6-7 in Lubbock).
- The two teams combined for 24 groundouts (13 hit into by LCU), with nine flyouts hit (seven by WT).
- LCU had two two-out RBI, placing the Lady Chaps with 17 two-out RBI for the four-game weekend.
- Nine of LCU's 10 hits were singles.
- LCU stranded 11 runners, which was their second-highest mark of the season (stranded 12 on Feb. 14 against Chadron State).
