Ranked Opponent Awaits LCU in Dallas

Lady Chaps Face LSC-Leading Patriots

LADY CHAP HEADERS
  • With five wins and two losses, Lubbock Christian remains the only team in the  Lone Star Conference still undefeated on the year, and they are second in the conference standings
  • The Lady Chaps have the third-lowest goals against average in the LSC at .57 and have not allowed more than one goal in any game so far this season
  • Dallas Baptist has the second-best offense in the LSC, averaging 3.38 goals per game, despite ranking sixth in the league with just 7.00 shots on goal per game
  • Allison Scott scored her fourth goal of the season in the win over UT Permian Basin on Wednesday and has 10 total points this season, which is the fifth-most in the LSC
  • Junior midfielder Arely Jimenez is the team leader in minutes played with 594 on the year. She has played more than 80 minutes in five of the seven Lady Chap games
 
TIME TO WAKE UP GREEN DAY
Because the month of September has come to an end, and it was a successful one for Lubbock Christian, who went 5-0-2 to start the season, notching their best start to a year since 2012. The Lady Chaps scored 15 goals during the month for an average of 2.14 per game. LCU out-shot its opponents 128 to 59 in September, including a 55-29 advantage in shots on goal. Milestones reached during the month included the 100th win in program history (9/2 vs. NMHU) and goalkeeper Hannah Wises's 200th career save (9/17 vs. CCU).
 
DEFENSE DOMINANCE
With their 2-0 win on Thursday, the Lady Chaps notched their third shutout of the year, and simultaneously lowered the season goals against average of .57. The other two shutouts this season have come against Adams State and Oklahoma Christian, and LCU has not allowed more than one goal in any game yet this season. Opponents are attempting just 8.4 shots per game and have put only 29 shots on goal. The Lady Chaps have been able to accomplish this defensive pressure all while committing just 6.86 fouls per game, which is the fourth-fewest in the league. 
 
RANKED OPPONENT
Saturday's matchup with Dallas Baptist will be LCU's first this season against an opponent ranked in the United Soccer Coaches top-25. The Patriots are currently ranked No. 12 nationally, but have been has high as No. 2 this season. Lubbock Christian did not face a ranked opponent during the spring 2021 season, making their last meeting against a ranked team also against Dallas Baptist, who was No. 18 nationally when LCU played them on Oct. 5, 2019. Lubbock Christian has not had many chances against ranked opponents in program history, but they did draw a point in Heartland Conference play on Sept. 4, 2017 when they fought to a 0-0 draw against No. 5 St. Edward's.
 
SHOOTING STARS
In Wednesday night's game against UTPB, the Lady Chaps took a season-high 26 shots, 10 of which were on goal. The last time LCU took more than 26 shots in a game was November 2, 2019, when they had 30 in a game that was also played against UT Permian Basin. Lubbock Christian now ranks third in the Lone Star Conference with an average of 18.29 shots per game and their 7.286 shots on goal per game are the fifth most in the league. Scott leads the team and is second in the conference with 3.29 shots per game (23 total), but Pate, Kenley Blevins, Julie Shahi and Celia Duarte have all already reached the double-digit shot mark this season.
 
HOW CAN I HELP YOU?
Although their 15 goals scored through the first seven games rank just sixth in the conference, the Lady Chaps have racked up 13 individual assists, which is the fourth-most. Two of those came on Wednesday night, as Giorgia Terzoni and Malena Watzlawik combined to assist the Scott goal. Watzlawik is now tied for the team lead with two assists this season, a mark she shares with Scott and Kenley Blevins. Another five Lady Chaps have one assist this year.
 
ROAD JOURNAL
Lubbock Christian enters Saturday's contest with a 2-0-1 record on the road, having collected wins against CSU-Pueblo and Texas A&M International and tying 1-1 with Colorado Christian. LCU is averaging 2.00 goals and 16.3 shots per game on the road. They have held opponents to 1.00 goals and 9.7 shots per game away from home.
 
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
  • DBU is coming off a 3-0 win at UT Tyler on Wednesday and their other conference wins have come against West Texas A&M (5-4) and Texas A&M-Commerce (6-2)
  • The only loss Dallas Baptist has suffered this season was against UC-Colorado Springs by a score of 3-1 on Sept. 8. All four goals in the game were scored after the 73rd minute
  • Michelle Gonzalez, Delaney Schmidt and Ashley Merrill have all scored five goals apiece and Abigail Olmos has scored four times. The Patriots 27 total goals are tied with WT for the conference lead
  • Goalkeeping duty for DBU has been split mostly between Hailey Brown and Adrianna Schroeder. Brown has the lower goals against average and three shutouts, but Schroeder has the better save percentage
  • Michelle Lenard is in her 14th season at the helm of the DBU women's soccer program, boasting a 189-75-23 all-time record
 
A WIN ON SATURDAY WOULD:
  • Be the 105th in Lubbock Christian program history (104-74-20)
  • Be the 91st under head coach Alex Denning (90-57-16)
  • Be the 114th of Denning's career as a women's soccer coach (113-90-19)
  • Be the Lady Chap's second win over Dallas Baptist since the all-time series began in 2013 (1-9-1)
