LADY CHAP HEADERS
- Lubbock Christian opens Lone Star Conference play this week with a Wednesday night matchup against Oklahoma Christian at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex
- Admission to both the the Lady Chap and Chap games on Wednesday night is free
- The Lady Chaps were picked to finish sixth in the conference preseason poll, behind DBU, Angelo State, West Texas A&M, St. Edward's and Texas A&M-Commerce
- Oklahoma Christian has only scored one goal in their first 270 minutes of play so far this season, and they were shut out in their first two games of the year
- Allison Scott is tied for the league lead with an average of 2.00 points per game this season. She has three goals, including one in both games in Colorado, and two assists
- LCU's defense has not allowed more than one goal in any game so far this season, posting a goals against average of .75, which ranks fourth in the LSC
LEAGUE LOOKOUT
LCU drew 286 points in the 2021 LSC Preseason Poll, putting them in sixth place, just behind Texas A&M-Commerce's 295 points. Texas Woman's was the team right behind LCU with 265 points. The final 13 games of the season, starting with Wednesday's against Oklahoma Christian will be played against league opponents, with teams garnering three points for a win, one for a tie and none for a loss. At the conclusion of the regular season, the top six teams by points will advance to participate in the LSC Postseason Tournament. The top two seeds will receive first-round byes, with the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds hosting the No. 5 and No. 6 seeds, respectively, for quarterfinal matches. The remaining four teams will advance to the No. 1 seed for the semifinal and final matches.
ON THE BACK LINE
Lubbock Christian has started the season with four straight strong defensive efforts, allowing just .75 goals per game so far. They have one shutout and have not allowed more than one goal in any contest so far. The Lady Chaps are limiting opponents to just 10.3 shots per game, and only 46.3 percent of those attempts have been on goal.
Shadiana Haney has led the back line, spending every minute of every game on the field, and
Brittany Jones and
Madison Mayben have both played more than 250 minutes on the back line as well.
BEHIND THE BACK LINE
LCU has used two different goalkeepers so far this season, one of which just made her first appearance in the most recent game against Colorado Christian. Freshman
Megan Mirabal has handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties so far, making 15 saves in 340 minutes on the field with four goals against. In the second half against CCU, she was replaced by veteran
Hannah Wise, who made one save in her 40 minutes of action, which was the 200
th of her LCU career. She is already the program leader in that category, as well as goalie games played and started.
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
With 10 goals scored through the first four games of the season, Lubbock Christian currently ranks fourth in the Lone Star Conference with an average of 2.50 goals per game. The team's two leading goal-scorers are
Allison Scott and
Makenna Pate with three apiece, but four other Lady Chaps have found the back of the next this season. Another five players have tallied points with assists. LCU is averaging 17.5 shots per game this season and has put 31 shots on goal.
TO START WITH…
Although Lubbock Christian had its first draw of the season last Friday against Colorado Christian, they still have not lost a game yet. The 3-0-1 start to the year is the Lady Chaps' second-best all time and their best overall since 2012, when they rattled off 12 straight wins to open the season.
WHERE THE HEART IS
The Lady Chaps started off the 2021 season with a pair of games at home, and they will open Lone Star Conference play here as well. Including the matchup with OC, there are seven home games left during the 2021 season. The program is 55-23-11 all-time in home contests and has never had a losing record at home under head coach
Alex Denning. The Lady Chaps were 3-2 at home last season, averaging 1.20 goals per game while holding opponents to .80.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
- Oklahoma Christian has started the season 0-3 with losses to Central Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State. They had a game against Washburn canceled
- The only goal scored by the Eagles so far this year came from Kyla Lovelace against NWOSU. OC is averaging just 9.7 shots per game and only 14 total have been on goal
- Gabby Goddard and Ashlee Jackson have split the goalkeeping duties almost exactly in half. Goddard has a save percentage of .643, while Jackson's is up at .727
- Evan Dressel is in his first season leading the Eagle women's soccer team. He was hired in June of this year after previously spending 10 seasons coaching at Mid-America Christian
- OC was picked to finish 13th in the 2021 LSC Preseason poll with 79 points, ahead of only UT Permian Basin
