Lady Chaps Earn Second Straight Draw

LCU Out-Shoots OC 14-6 in LSC Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas (September 22, 2021) – Lubbock Christian University's women's soccer team earned one point in the league standings in their first Lone Star Conference game of the season, fighting to a 0-0 draw with Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.

It is the second shutout of the season for the Lady Chaps, who remain undefeated at 3-0-2. The draw also marks the first time LCU has tied in back-to-back contests since 2016, when they tied St. Mary's and Dallas Baptist on Oct. 15 and 20, respectively.

Hannah Wise earned the clean sheet in goal, which was her first of the season in her first start. The Midlothian native stopped four shots - three of which came in the second half.

The only first-half save made by Wise was actually the first shot on goal of the game by either team and came in the eighth minute from Gracie Cornelius. It was the Lady Chaps on the attack for more of the first half though, with a pair of shots from Julie Shahi and one from Celia Duarte in the opening 15 minutes of play.

Duarte also put the first LCU shot on goal in the 25th minute, but it was saved. Allison Scott created another couple of chances, shooting low and on frame in the 31st minute and missing just high a minute later. Kenley Blevins also tried to give the Lady Chaps the lead just before the break, but her 43rd minute shot on goal was also saved.

Oklahoma Christian turned up the offensive pressure in the second half, taking four shots compared to just one in the opening period, but the Eagles by no means controlled the game. Six of LCU's 11 total corner kicks came in the second half, but no Lady Chap was able to find the back of the net. The last time Lubbock Christian had more than 11 corner kicks in one game was Oct. 17, 2019 against St. Mary's.

Only one shot was taken by OC in the first overtime period, and it was off target. LCU was on the attack more in the second overtime period and very nearly netted the game winner when Scott headed a corner kick on frame, but Eagle keeper Gabby Goddard just kept it from going in.

The Lady Chaps will continue conference play on the road on Saturday, making the long trip to Laredo to take on Texas A&M-International. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. at Dustdevil Soccer Field.
