SAN ANGELO, Texas – A pair of goals off corner kicks pushed the RV Angelo State Rambelles over the Lady Chaps 2-0 in a physical match on Wednesday, Oct. 12.
The Belles (11-2-1, 6-2 LSC) came out hot, with Madison Stokes firing the first shot of the game in the 4
th minute that was corralled by Abby Kone for the save.
Celia Duarte saw the best chance for the Lady Chaps (6-2-5, 3-1-2 LSC) in the 21
st minute, but her shot went over the net.
Kone stayed busy in the 26
th minute, blocking a shot from Katelin Heise before saving the rebound by Cassidy Hill to keep the contest scoreless.
After a corner kick bounced around the box, Katie Detmer and Heise settled the ball enough in the 35
th minute to send a ball towards Grace Jordan, who connected with the back of the net to push Angelo State ahead 1-0 at the break.
It was the Lady Chaps who had the scoring chance early in the second half, with
Julie Shahi rifling a ball into the mitts of Rambelle goalkeeper Kira Miller just 10 seconds into the second period.
Madison Mayben had another shot for the Lady Chaps in the 58
th minute, but once again Miller made the save.
Off another Angelo State corner in the 73
rd minute, the ball ricocheted around the box, before Mia Czarnecki found Heise in front of the net for the second Rambelle goal of the match.
Shahi had a chance to cut the lead in half in the 87
th minute, but Miller picked up another save and secured her ninth shutout of the season, giving Angelo State the 2-0 victory.
Heise's three points are the most an opposing player has scored in a match this season against the Lady Chaps. She is the first player to score a goal and pick up an assist in a match this season of any team that has faced LCU.
The shutout brings the Lady Chaps scoreless streak against ASU to 305:15 of game action. The Rambelles have shutout LCU in the last three meetings.
One bright spot for the Lady Chaps is
Arely Jimenez continuing to move up the career leader boards, becoming just the third Lady Chap in program history to play in 75 career matches, tied for the third most in program history. With 90 minutes played tonight, Jimenez moves into sole possession of the fifth most minutes played in program history, logging 5,309 minutes on the pitch in her career.
