Lady Chaps earn second straight shutout, draw scoreless tie with Fort Lewis

Abby Kone earns her second shutout of the season

DURANGO, Colo. – Battling through a lightning delay and a tough Skyhawk defense, the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps soccer squad concluded Saturday's match with Fort Lewis the way they started it, in a scoreless draw.

The Lady Chaps (1-0-1) came out swinging in the first half, outshooting the Skyhawks by an 8-1 margin through the first 22 minutes of the match. Five of those shots were on goal, with Avery Jennings leading the way with three shots.

After a 90-minute delay due to lightning, Fort Lewis (0-1-1) took over in the final 13 minutes of the opening frame, recording four shots to just two by LCU. Madyson Barela tallied three shots with one on goal. The due teams entered the halftime break scoreless.

In the 61st minute, the Skyhawks had their best chance of the game at drawing first blood after Aubrey Swindle found herself all alone in front of the goal, but Abby Kone saved the line drive shot to keep the contest scoreless.

The Lady Chaps saw another great chance in the 85th minute of the match, with Lexi De La Cruz trying to connect with Andy Holder on a breakaway, but the pass went just wide and Fort Lewis keeper Kate Dunbabin able to corral the errant pass before it could sneak through her wickets.

In the 88th minute, Fort Lewis saw one final great chance to score with a shot by Sabrina Reyes hitting Kone square in the chest. The Lady Chaps could not score themselves in the final two minutes as the contest ended in a scoreless draw 0-0.

Kone earns her second straight shutout, tallying three saves in the match. Dunbabin recorded seven saves for Fort Lewis in 47 minutes of action, while Riley Bravin started the match for the Skyhawks, corralling one save in 43 minutes of play time.

Jennings and De La Cruz both recorded three shots for the entire game, with two of those by Jennings being on goal. Madyson Barela led Fort Lewis with four shots in the match with one on goal. The Lady Chaps outshot the Skyhawks 14-10, with eight shots on goal compared to three by Fort Lewis.
