Chaps shut out for second match in a row

LCU has not scored a goal in 223 minutes

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - A pair of first half goals along with a stifling defense pushed Oklahoma Christian to a 3-0 victory over LCU on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

In the 23rd minute, Diego Casero Comeche found the Eagles' (6-0-1) leading scorer Daniel Gutierrez as he fired a shot in the lower left corner of the net, giving OCU a 1-0 advantage.

Enzo Jaques recorded a shot in the 36th minute that was blocked by the Oklahoma Christian defense. His shot was the first shot recorded by any Chap in 96:01 of game action.

Right before halftime, Zach Snow tipped the ball off of his back heel and John Osadolor Ighede got just enough of his foot on the ball to lace a shot pass the Chaparral (2-4-1) defense to swell the Oklahoma Christian lead to 2-0 in the 44th minute.

Casero Comeche put the Eagles up for good, finding Isaias Silva in the 51st minute who pushed home the third goal of the match for OCU, going up 3-0.

Both teams went quiet on offense to close the match, as a shot by Lucas Carli in the 57th minute went wide left, while a shot from  Osadolor Ighede was saved by Tom Miles in the 59th minute. Neither team recorded a shot in the final 31:28 of game action and Oklahoma Christian rolled to a 3-0 victory.

Lubbock Christian has now lost three straight matches, being outscored 7-1. The Chaps have not scored a goal in 223:04 of game action. LCU has also been outshot 31-16 in this losing streak.

Casero Comeche is the first opposing player to record two assists in a match against LCU since Gustavo Barroso of Texas Permian Basin did so on Apr. 6, 2021.

LCU has been shut out three times this season, the most in one year since the 2019 season. That team went 9-7-2 but were shut out in their last two games of the season, losing to Eastern New Mexico 2-0 on Nov. 9 before falling to St. Edward's 1-0 in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Nov. 12.

The Chaps finally return home on Saturday, Sept. 17 for the first edition in the Rivalry on the Range against no. 18 West Texas A&M in a nonconference clash. The Buffs and Chaps resume their rivalry at 3:30 PM at the LCU Soccer and Track Facility. Tickets are available at lcuchaps.com.
