ARLINGTON, Texas (September 25, 2022) – The Lubbock Christian University women's tennis program competed in their first ITA sanctioned event this week, competing in the ITA Division II South Central Regional at Arlington Tennis Center (hosted by Dallas Baptist).
 
The Lady Chaps competed in a total of 21 combined events between singles and doubles action, which each consisted of "Main" and "B-Draw" flights with "Main" and Consolation" brackets within the flights. LCU claimed nine victories in singles competitions, with Anastasiia Khrustaleva and Lauren Shinneman each posting a 2-1 record (seven of LCU's 10 competitors collected at least one victory). Axelle Jacquemin was the only Lady Chaps member to claim a win over a seeded competitor (in singles), as she defeated No.15-seed Alice Di Matteo of Midwestern State (6-1,7-5). In doubles competitions, the teams of Amber Rhodes / Lauren Shinneman and Emily-Bo Meyer / Michelle Trochez each claimed a victory.

WHAT HEAD COACH JASON SPEEGLE HAD TO SAY

"The Lone Star Conference (the LSC is the only conference in the ITA's South Central Region) is proving to be very deep with many talented players in women's tennis this year. This tournament was a learning experience for us. Anastasiia Khrustaleva is as talented as any player in the conference. Our freshmen are learning how to compete under pressure. Michelle Trochez and Axelle Jacquemin both had good opening round wins and had chances to get to the round of 16. Overall, I'm proud of how we competed and this experience will help prepare us for the spring season."
