Raineri's multi-goal night too much for Chaps

LCU allows an opposing player to score two goals for the first time since November 2021

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A five-point night from Kolby Raineri gave Colo. Colorado Springs the edge as the Mountain Lions knocked off the Chaps 3-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The Lions (3-1-1) struck first on a strange play in the 165h minute. After what was believed to be an offside call against UCCS, Connor Pettigrew tossed the ball back into play to reset. However, the referee never blew his whistle, and Raineri was able to grab control of the ball and push it through the back of the net and give the Mountain Lions the 1-0 advantage.

UCCS had a chance to double their lead, but Pettigrew slid in front of the foot of Raineri to make a fantastic one handed save to keep the Chaps down one.

LCU (2-2-1) looked to strike for their first goal in the 21st minute, but Declan Domyan made a strong save of his own off a shot by Tyler Little to keep UCCS ahead in the first half.

In the 27th minute, the Mountain Lions struck again, as Raineri found Marvin Putu to swell the UCCS lead to 2-0 in the first half.

Just two minutes into the second half, LCU got on the board, as Eduardo Forte found Jordan Jayapuram in the box for his second goal of the season, cutting the Mountain Lion lead down to 2-1 in the 47th minute.

Roughly ten minutes later, Raineri corralled a pass from Komil Khatamov a fired home his second goal of the match, pushing UCCS back ahead by two goals in the second half.

The Chaps got shots from Eric Embry, Jeremy Chua, and Enzo Jaques down the stretch, but another save by Domyan and three shots going wide of the net kept LCU off the board and gave Colo. Colorado Springs the 3-1 victory.

With two goals, Raineri is the first Chap opponent to score multiple goals in a match since Salvador Vargos Ramos did so for Texas Permian Basin on Nov. 6, 2021. Ramos was also the last Chap opponent to tally five points in a match before Raineri finished the evening with five points.

The Chaps are now 0-3 all-time at Mountain Lion Field and have been outscored 6-2 all time in Colorado Springs against the Mountain Lions.

LCU wraps up their tour of Colorado on Friday, Sept. 9 against no. 25 CSU Pueblo. Kickoff is set for 8 PM.
