Chaps Battle #2 Midwestern State Wednesday Night at Home

LUBBOCK, Texas – Coming off back-to-back 0-0 draws, the Lubbock Christian University men's soccer team welcomes #2 Midwestern State to town Wednesday night.

CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • The Chaps are coming off a scoreless draw with #18 UT Tyler, their sixth draw of the season. This is the most draws the Chaps have had in a season in program history.
  • LCU has gone 0-2-5 in their last seven matches, last winning on Sept. 16 against Northwest Nazarene.
  • The Chaps have taken 139 shots, 64 of which have been on goal.
  • LCU averages 1.42 goals per game on 11.6 shots a game.
SCORING WOES
  • The Chaps have been shutout five of their last seven matches, last scoring Oct. 4 against St. Mary's (TX).
  • LCU has only scored two goals in Lone Star play, the least in the LSC.  
 I CAN SEE FOR MILES AND MILES
  • Tom Miles has been one of the best goalkeepers in the nation this season, ranking 16th nationally in total saves.
  • He is first in the Lone Star Conference in saves and saves per game.
  • Miles has recorded four shutouts, the second most in the Lone Star. The shutouts came against Northwest Nazarene, Dallas Baptist, Eastern New Mexico, and UT Tyler.
THE NOT-SO-SECRET WEAPON
  • The Chaps have been led offensively by Graduate Student Pablo Galietero Diez who has scored four goals and two assists this season.
  • He ranks top-10 in the Lone Star in shots, shots on goal, goals and points.
  • In his career, Pablo has scored 24 goals.
SUPER SAIMON
  • Saimon Gjeci has made a huge impact in his first season with the Chaps, scoring four goals and adding an assist.
  • Gjeci is top-10 in the LSC in goals.
DISHIN' IN OUT
  • Sophomore Enzo Jaques has recorded four assists this season, the sixth most in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Jaques scored the game winning goals against Adams State and Northwest Nazarene. His two game winners rank him third in the LSC in GWs.
FURTHER BACK
  • The Lubbock Christian men's soccer program began in 2010 with a 3-1 win against the University of the Southwest (N.M.). On Nov. 9, 2021, in the opening round of the LSC Tournament, the Chaps won their 100th match in program history, rolling over UT Permian Basin 6-0.
  • The Chap program enters the 2023 season with an overall record of 108-89-27.
THE SERIES WITH MIDWESTERN STATE
  • The Chaps have never defeated the Mustangs, coming into Wednesday's match with a 0-8-4 all-time record.
  • LCU fell 2-1 to MSU in 2022.
  • The Chaps are 0-4-2 at home all-time against the Mustangs.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
  • MSU is coming off a 6-3 win over Texas A&M International on Saturday.
  • The Mustangs come into Wednesday's match ranked 2nd in the nation.
  • They have outscored their opponents 38 to eight this season, scoring 2.92 goals per game on 15.4 shots a game.
  • The Mustang offense is led by Mere Escobar who has scored 12 goals and six assists this season. Escobar is ranked in the top-6 nationally in goals, points, and game-winning goals.
  • Escobar has been the best offensive player in the LSC ranking first in the conference in shots, goals, game-winning goals, shots on goal, and points. He is second in the LSC in assists.
  • Adam Braman has made 25 saves on 95 shots faced in goal for the Mustangs. He allows 0.62 goals per game and has a .758 save percentage.
  • The Mustangs are coached by Michael Meachum who is in his 6th season. He was named the 2021 LSC Coach of the Year.
A WIN WOULD
  • Give the Chaps their fifth win of the season.
  • Give LCU their 114th win in program history.
  • Give the Chaps a 1-1-3 conference record.
  • Be the first win all-time against Midwestern State.
