Chaps and Patriots Battle Wednesday Night in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas – Coming off a 1-1 draw against Oklahoma Christian, the Lubbock Christian University men's soccer returns home to battle the Patriots of Dallas Baptist.

CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • The Chaps are coming off a 1-1 draw on the road at Oklahoma Christian. Pablo Galietero Diez put the Chaps on the board early with a goal in the second minute. The Eagles went on to tie the game in the 85th minute resulting in the Chaps seventh draw of the season.
  • LCU has gone 0-3-6 in their last nine matches, last winning on Sept. 16 against Northwest Nazarene.
  • The Chaps' seven draws is the most draws in a season in program history.
  • LCU have taken 161 shots, 76 of which have been on goal.
  • The Chaps average 1.36 goals per game on 11.5 shots a game.
  • LCU comes into Wednesday's match in 9th place in the LSC standings with four points.
SCORING WOES
  • The Chaps have been shutout five of their last nine matches.
  • LCU has only scored four goals in Lone Star play, the least in the LSC.  
  • The LCU defense has conceded 13 goals in conference play, the most in the Lone Star.
 I CAN SEE FOR MILES AND MILES
  • Tom Miles has been one of the best goalkeepers in the nation this season, ranking 10th nationally in total saves with 71.
  • Miles also ranks 12th nationally in saves per game with 5.46.
  • He is first in the Lone Star Conference in saves and saves per game.
  • Miles has recorded four shutouts, the second most in the Lone Star. The shutouts came against Northwest Nazarene, Dallas Baptist, Eastern New Mexico, and UT Tyler.
  • Tom was named the LSC Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 17.
THE NOT-SO-SECRET WEAPON
  • The Chaps have been led offensively by Graduate Student Pablo Galietero Diez who has recorded six goals and two assists this season.
  • He ranks top-10 in the Lone Star in shots, shots on goal, goals and points.
  • In his career, Pablo has recorded 26 goals and 12 assists.
DISHIN' IN OUT
  • Sophomore Enzo Jaques has recorded four assists this season, the eighth most in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Jaques scored the game winning goals against Adams State and Northwest Nazarene. His two game winners rank him fourth in the LSC in GWs.
FURTHER BACK
  • The Lubbock Christian men's soccer program began in 2010 with a 3-1 win against the University of the Southwest (N.M.). On Nov. 9, 2021, in the opening round of the LSC Tournament, the Chaps won their 100th match in program history, rolling over UT Permian Basin 6-0.
  • The Chap program enters the 2023 season with an overall record of 108-89-27.
THE SERIES WITH DALLAS BAPTIST
  • The Chaps are 7-3-1 all-time against the Patriots.
  • Earlier this season (Sept. 27), the Chaps and Patriots played to a scoreless tie in Dallas.
  • LCU is 3-0 all-time at home against DBU.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
  • Dallas Baptist is coming off three consecutive draws, drawing 1-1 to St. Mary's last time out.
  • The Patriots enter the match one spot ahead of the Chaps in the LSC standings. The Patriots have gone 1-2-3 in LSC action, resulting in six points.
  • DBU has been outscored 18 to 22 this season, scoring 1.29 goals per game on 9.8 shots a game.
  • The Patriot offense is led by 2022 D2CCA All-South Central Region Second team member Peyton Voelker. Voelker has recorded six goals and three assists in his junior campaign.
  • Gavyn Rosales and Hunter Dierlam have scored three goals a piece as well.
  • Patrick Banich and Alexander Knepper have split time in goal this season for DBU. Banich has made eight starts and Knepper has started the other six matches. The duo has combined for 38 saves on 157 shots faced. They allow 1.57 goals a game and have a .633 save percentage.
  • The Patriots are coached by Jess Jobe who is in his third season.
A WIN WOULD
  • Give the Chaps their fifth win of the season.
  • Give LCU their 114th win in program history.
  • Give the Chaps a 1-2-4 conference record.
