Chaps Head to State Capital for Match with St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas – Fresh off a 1-0 win over Dallas Baptist the Lubbock Christian University men's soccer team travels to Austin to take on St. Edward's Saturday afternoon.

CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • The Chaps are coming off a 1-0 win over Dallas Baptist on Wednesday (Oct. 25). Saimon Gjeci broke the scoreless tie when he scored his fifth goal of the season in the 39th minute. Tom Miles was stellar in net for the Chaps making 10 saves and shutting out the Patriot offense.
  • The win over DBU broke LCU's nine match winless streak and gave the Chaps their first conference win of the year.
  • The Chaps' seven draws are the most draws in a season in program history.
  • LCU have taken 169 shots, 78 of which have been on goal.
  • The Chaps average 1.33 goals per game on 11.3 shots a game.
  • LCU comes into Saturday's match in 7th place in the LSC standings with seven points.
 I CAN SEE FOR MILES AND MILES
  • Tom Miles has been one of the best goalkeepers in the nation this season, ranking 7th nationally in total saves with 81.
  • Miles also ranks 10th nationally in saves per game with 5.79.
  • He is first in the Lone Star Conference in saves and saves per game.
  • Miles has recorded five shutouts, the second most in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Tom was named the LSC Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 17.
THE NOT-SO-SECRET WEAPON
  • The Chaps have been led offensively by Graduate Student Pablo Galietero Diez who has recorded six goals and two assists this season.
  • He ranks top-10 in the Lone Star in shots, shots on goal, goals and points.
  • In his career, Pablo has recorded 26 goals and 12 assists.
SUPER SAIMON
  • Saimon Gjeci has made a huge impact in his first season with the Chaps, scoring five goals and adding an assist.
  • He is top-10 in the LSC in goals this season.
FURTHER BACK
  • The Lubbock Christian men's soccer program began in 2010 with a 3-1 win against the University of the Southwest (N.M.). On Nov. 9, 2021, in the opening round of the LSC Tournament, the Chaps won their 100th match in program history, rolling over UT Permian Basin 6-0.
  • The Chap program enters the 2023 season with an overall record of 108-89-27.
THE SERIES WITH ST. EDWARD'S
  • The Hilltoppers have controlled the all-time series against the Chaps, coming into Saturday's match with a 1-5-2 all-time record.
  • Last time they met was Nov. 12, 2019, in Austin. SEU came away with a 1-0 victory in the match.
  • LCU is 1-3-2 all-time on the road at St. Edward's.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
  • St. Edward's is coming off a 4-0 loss to Midwestern State on Wednesday (Oct. 25).
  • The Hilltoppers enter the match at the bottom of the LSC standings and are seeking their first win of the season.
  • SEU has been outscored 11 to 33 this season, scoring 0.79 goals per game on 9.8 shots a game.
  • The Hilltopper offense is led by Carlos Huato and Jethro Vourjolo, the duo has combined for four goals.
  • Kaleo Francis and Kellen Gullion have split time in goal this season for SEU. They have combined for 35 saves on 138 shots faced.
  • The Hilltoppers are coached by Brian Young who is in his 16th season.
A WIN WOULD
  • Give the Chaps their sixth win of the season.
  • Give LCU their 115th win in program history.
  • Give the Chaps a 2-2-4 conference record.
