Chaps Continue LSC Play with Rivalry on the Range

LUBBOCK, Texas – Fresh off a 2-2 draw at #16 St. Mary's, the Lubbock Christian University men's soccer team welcomes West Texas A&M to town to renew the "Rivalry on the Range."

CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • The Chaps are coming off a 2-2 draw with #16 St. Mary's on Wednesday, Oct. 4.  LCU found themselves down 2-0 before Madden Montgomery scored his first career goal to cut the deficit. Pablo Galietero Diez scored the equalizer in the 61st minute. Enzo Jaques recorded two assists in the match.
  • LCU has recorded three consecutive draws for the first time in program history.
  • The Chaps have outscored their opponents 17 to 12 this season, averaging 1.89 goals per game on 12 shots a game.
  • The Chaps have taken 108 shots, 48 of which have been on goal.
I CAN SEE FOR MILES AND MILES
  • Tom Miles has been one of the best goalkeepers in the nation this season, ranking 12th nationally in total saves and 10th in saves per game.  
  • He is first in the Lone Star Conference in saves and saves per game. He is third in the LSC in save percentage.
  • Miles recorded shutouts against Northwest Nazarene and Dallas Baptist.
THE NOT-SO-SECRET WEAPON
  • The Chaps have been led offensively by Graduate Student Pablo Galietero Diez who has scored four goals and two assists this season.
  • He ranks top-10 in the Lone Star in shots, shots on goal, goals, and points.
  • In his career, Pablo has scored 24 goals and recorded 48 points.
SUPER SAIMON
  • Saimon Gjeci has made a huge impact in his first season with the Chaps, scoring four goals and adding an assist through the first nine games.
  • Gjeci is top-10 in the LSC in goals and points.
DISHIN' IN OUT
  • Sophomore Enzo Jaques has recorded four assists this season, the third most in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Jaques scored the game winning goals against Adams State and Northwest Nazarene. His two game winners ranks him third in the LSC in GWs.
 
FURTHER BACK
  • The Lubbock Christian men's soccer program began in 2010 with a 3-1 win against the University of the Southwest (N.M.). On Nov. 9, 2021, in the opening round of the LSC Tournament, the Chaps won their 100th match in program history, rolling over UT Permian Basin 6-0.
  • The Chap program enters the 2023 season with an overall record of 108-89-27.
THE SERIES WITH WEST TEXAS A&M
  • The Buffaloes handed LCU their only loss of the season, beating the Chaps 2-0 on Sept. 20 in Canyon.
  • The Chaps are 8-9-1 all-time against the Buffaloes.
  • LCU is 5-2 all-time against WTAMU.
SCOUTING THE BUFFS
  • West Texas A&M opened Lone Star action with a 3-0 win over Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday.
  • The Buffs are 4-3-2 overall and 0-3-1 on the road this season.
  • WTAMU has outscored their opponents 14 to seven this season and allow just 0.78 goals per game on 7.7 shots a game.
  • The Buffaloes have four players with multiple goals in 2023. Their team leader in points is Matteo Landais who has scored two goals and added four assists.
  • Landais is top-10 in the LSC in shots, shots on goal, and assists.
  • Asaf Kristal has made 19 saves on 69 shots faced in goal for the Buffs.
  • Kristal ranks top-3 in the LSC in goals allowed average and shutouts per game.
  • The Buffs are coached by Butch Lauffer who is in his 33rd season.
A WIN WOULD
  • Give the Chaps their fifth win of the season.
  • Give LCU their 114th win in program history.
  • Give the Chaps a 1-0-1 conference record.
