Tiras Morton Scores 23 Points as Chaps Run Past Regis

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University men's basketball team secured their second win of the season Friday afternoon, defeating Regis 73-52 inside Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio.

The Chaps dominated from the start en route to the blowout as three players scored in double-figures. For a second consecutive game, Tiras Morton led the team as he dropped 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

The unselfish Chaps assisted on 14 of their 30 made baskets while turning the ball over just seven times. Seven Chaps had assists in the game led by Najeeb Muhammad who dished out five. Morton added three assists of his own.

After trading buckets through the first five minutes, the Chaps strung together a 26-12 run over the next 12 minutes of action to take a commanding 18-point lead. The Rangers answered with an 11-5 run of their own to cut the deficit to 12 going into the half.

The Rangers could not carry the momentum into the second half as the Chaps went on a 15-4 run to start the second period. LCU pressured the ball on the defensive end collecting seven steals, while capitalizing in the paint where they saw a 38-26 advantage.

Muhammad and Senior Kurt Wegscheider led LCU with two steals each in the win while the Chaps turned 12 Ranger turnovers into 18 points. The Chaps also took advantage on the boards, outrebounding Regis 38-29. LCU scored 11 second chance points off of 11 offensive rebounds.

Ethan Duncan (15) and Muhammad (13) also scored in double-digits for the Chaps while Trey Thompson added seven.

Ty Cox led Regis with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Chase Mayo Harmon added nine.
