Second Half Shooting Struggles Lead to Chaps First Loss of the Season

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University men's basketball team fell to Northern Michigan 83-69, Sunday night inside the Rip Griffin Center.
 
After an evenly matched first half, the Chaps struggled on the offensive end shooting 10-for-24 (41.67 percent) from the field and 0-for-9 from behind the arc in final 20 minutes.
 
NMU dominated the glass in the win, out rebounding the Chaps 41 to 26. Of their 41 boards, 11 came on the offensive end. These offensive rebounds led to 15 second chance points for the Wildcats.
 
The Wildcats shot lights out in the second period going 14-for-25 (56 percent) from the field. They outscored LCU 41 to 30 after halftime.
 
NMU extended their lead to 15 points with 13:03 left to play. The Chaps went on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 59-50. The two teams would continue to trade buckets until LCU cut the lead to just five points with 4:02 remaining in the game. The Wildcats closed out the game on a 16 to seven run to secure their first win of the season.
 
LCU struggled from the charity stripe shooting 50 percent (11-22) on the night.
 
Ethan Duncan had a team-high 18 points for LCU in the loss while Tiras Morton recorded a 12-point, 12 rebound double-double.
 
Max Weisbrod led Northern Michigan with 18 points and three assists while Dylan Kuehl (13), Brian Parzych (12), Riley Brooks (12), and Sam Schultz (10) also scored in double-figures.
 
Up Next
The Chaps will look to respond Friday afternoon with a trip to San Antonio for the LSC v RMAC Challenge. Tip with Colorado School of Mines is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
