Chaps Host Oklahoma City on New Year's Eve

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian men's basketball team closes out 2023 with a nonconference matchup with Oklahoma City College Sunday afternoon at the Rip Griffin Center.
 
RV Lubbock Christian (8-3, 4-0) vs Oklahoma City University (3-8, 1-4)

THE SERIES
This matchup marks the 18th meeting between the Chaps and Stars, but only the second since 2013. OCU has controlled the series, holding an 11-6 record against LCU. The last meeting came on Dec. 6, 2021, where the Chaps won 93-48.
 
 ABOUT OKLAHOMA CITY
  • The Stars are in their 2nd season with Head Coach Mark Berokoff at the helm.
  • OCU comes into Sunday's game with a 3-8 record and are 1-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
  • Avery Jackson is leading the way for the Stars, averaging 17.6 points a night.
  • OCU is averaging 72.3 points a game shooting 39.7 percent from the field.
 
LAST TIME OUT – LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN.
Ethan Duncan collected 20 first half points to help lead LCU over Texas A&M-Kingsville 76-60 at home Dec. 12.
The Chaparrals had four players score in double figures, led by Duncan, who was scoreless in the second half. Aaron Gonzales tacked on 13 points, Tiras Morton helped out with a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Kurt Wegscheider added 11 points for the Chaps. 
The LCU offense was strong from downtown, knocking down 13 threes on 32 attempts. Duncan hit six treys for the Chaparrals in the contest.
The Chap defense held Javelina shooters to only 38.6 percent from the field.
LAST TIME OUT – OKLAHOMA CITY 
The Oklahoma City Stars men's basketball team fell in the closing seconds 80-76 to Bethel College as sophomore Avery Jackson tied a career-high 32 points in the final home game before the new year.
 
A WIN WOULD
  • Bring the Chaps record to 9-3 overall.
  • Be the 230th win the Coach Duncan era.
  • Extend the LCU win streak to six games.
