LUBBOCK, Texas (February 11, 2023) – No.21 Lubbock Christian University swept a pair of games against RMAC programs in the third day of action at the Lubbock Sports College Invitational Saturday, as
Maxine Valdez notched the 24
th no-hitter in program history, in an 8-0 run-rule win over Chadron State, before the Lady Chaparrals claimed their fourth consecutive run-rule win by defeating Adams State 9-1 at Maner Park.

Turning Point:
After allowing their only baserunner, LCU turned a 1-6-3 double play, which led to
Maxine Valdez facing the minimum (15 batters) .
How it Happened:
LCU stranded five runners through the first three innings and scratched a run across in the first two innings, as
Ally Oyanguren singled in a run in the first inning and the Lady Chaps scored off an error in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. LCU sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth inning. The first five batters reached base safely (three singles and a pair of walks), with
Berkeley Quinn hitting a single to drive the first of six runs in the inning. Oyanguren drove in a pair with a two-run double down the left field line. She joined
Tiarra Delrosario with multi-RBI hits in the six-run frame.
Sloane Quijas was CSC's lone baserunner. She reached on a one-out walk in the fourth inning. Jazlyn Arvizo followed and hit a chopper back to pitcher
Maxine Valdez, who went to second base for the 1-6-3 double-play.
Inside the Numbers:
- Maxine Valdez improved to 4-0 on the season (23-9 in her career), as she posted her third complete game of the season (10th of her career) and her second shutout of the campaign (fifth of her career). She completed her third career no-hitter (tied for second in LCU's career totals for no-hitters) and first since April 1, 2022 (vs. Texas Woman's), which was LCU's last no-hitter. It was LCU's 24th no-hitter in program history. Her prior outing (Friday against Emporia State) resulted in a one-hitter.
- Ally Oyanguren registered her second game this season of three-or-more RBI.
- In the third inning, LCU did not score a run. Of the last 20 innings played (includes the following game), this is the only inning LCU has not scored a run.
- Oyanguren and Sydnee Bowlin were each 2-for-2 with runners in scoring position, as LCU was 5-for-10 in the category as a team.
HISTORICAL NOTE
LCU improved to 7-0 all-time against Chadron State and six of the seven meetings have been played in Lubbock.

Turning Point:
LCU broke the game open in the bottom of the second inning, as a trio of Lady Chaps walked to leadoff the inning, which led to a four-run frame.
How it Happened:
The Lady Chaps struck first with
Hope Banales hitting a RBI-double to score Berkely Quinn, who had led off the game with a walk. They added to the lead in the bottom of the second inning with
Victoria Owens,
Kamryn Gibbs and Hannah Wells all walking to leadoff the inning. Quinn grounded out to score the first run of the inning. Herrera and Banales each singled in a run, and Banales eventually scored on an error during a stolen base to cap the four-run inning.
Adams State was able to get leadoff hitter Kaia Bradford aboard on an error in the third inning, and she would eventually score an unearned run for ASU's only run of the game. LCU matched the run in the bottom half of the third inning with
Tiarra Delrosario scoring on a Grizzlies error for a 6-1 lead.
Kasey Flores added to the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to put LCU up 8-1. LCU walked it off (run-rule) in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Hannah Wells scored
Kamryn Gibbs on a fielder's choice.
Inside the Numbers:
- LCU pitched via committee, with starting pitcher Kaeleigh Vega recording the victory (1-0). She went 2.0 innings and allowed the only two hits of the game by ASU. Ally Talamantes also pitched 2.0 innings and joined Vega with two strikeouts apiece. Ashlinn Hamilton pitched a scoreless fifth inning and was planning to pitch a second inning before LCU activated the run-rule.
- Like the opening game of the day, LCU went 5-for-10 in at-bats with runners in scoring position. Hope Banales was 2-for-3 in at-bats with runners in scoring position.
- Banales hit a double in the game for her team-leading seventh double of the season.
- Kasey Flores's two-run home run in the fourth inning was her team-leading fourth of the season and 44th of her NCAA career.
- ASU had a two-out base hit and was 1-for-5 in the category. It puts LCU's opponents 1-for-27 (.037) this week in two-out at-bats.
- The Grizzlies were 0-for-10 at the plate with runners on base.
HISTORICAL NOTE
LCU and Adams State were meeting for the second time in program history and both meetings have been in a 24-hour span (LCU improving to 2-0 against ethe Grizzlies).
