Trio of Wins to Spring LCU Into Spring Schedule

Lady Chaps Have Won Four Straight Duals Heading Into LSC Opener

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 20, 2023) – The Lubbock Christian University women's tennis program played their first-ever dual matches at Penny Gullo Tennis Center and collected a trio of wins on the opening weekend of the spring schedule. LCU defeated Seward County Community College 5-2 (Friday) and McMurry 6-1 (Saturday) before weather delays transitioned the Lady Chaps to Texas Tech's McLeod Tennis Center to defeat Weatherford College 7-0 under the lights.

Vs. SCCC
LCU claimed the team point in doubles play, opening doubles play with wins by the No.3 team of Taylor Nichols and Emily-Bo Meyer and by the No.2 team of Oshini Herath and Anastasiia Opolska. Each of the winning LCU doubles teams were paired together for the first time this season and Opolska was making her season debut.

Michelle Trochez clinched the LCU win in her No.1 singles victory, as she topped Camille Belberka in three sets. Meyer, Herath and Maya Adler each won their singles match.

Vs. McM
LCU cruised to the opening team point sweeping doubles play. Teams of Axelle Jacquemin / Michelle Trochez, Opolska / Herath and Maya Adler / Lauren Shinneman each claimed victories. The team of Adler / Shineman were playing together for the first time this season.

The Lady Chaps claimed five of the six singles matches to win the dual. No.1 singles player Meyer had the most impressive win with a pair of 6-0 set wins (over Hope Turner). Opolska (No.3 singles) claimed her first singles win with a 6-0, 6-1 set-score win over Jenna Vincent. Oshini, Adler and Nichols completed the LCU victories in singles competition.

Vs. WC
Shifting over to Texas Tech to host WC, LCU opened with the doubles team point. WC did not field a third double team, so LCU needed one doubles team win to claim the team point. Jacquemin / Meyer, playing together for the first time, won their No.1 doubles match over Lina Brandt / Agathe Vaillant to win the point.

With two points in singles, by default wins, adding to the doubles point, LCU had a 3-0 lead before singles matches were underway. LCU cruised in singles with Jacquemin, Oshini, Meyer and Adler won their singles matches. Jacquemin had set scores of 6-1, 6-0 in her No.1 match against Marija Ristanovic. Adler, Herath and Meyer each won their third consecutive singles match and Adler's win moved her to 3-0 in duals.

The win was LCU's second 7-0 duals win this season. They are now on a four-match win streak in duals.

In Summary
The trio of dual victories has LCU 5-2 this season and they now prepare to host St. Mary's Friday for their first Lone Star Conference duals match in program history.
