Game 1

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
A nine-run inning in which LCU had nine consecutive batters reach base safely.

How it Happened:
LCU cruised, scoring in each inning of the contest with multiple runs. Kasey Flores started the scoring barrage with a two-run home run in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. LCU sent 13 batters to the plate in the second inning, leading to a nine-run inning for an 11-0 lead. They had eight hits in the inning, with Hayden Brown and Amanda Valdiviezo each driving in a pair of runs. Ally Oyanguren supplied the offense in the third inning with a grand slam home run for a 15-1 lead. Riley Lunsford drove in the final run of the game to cap a two-run fourth inning.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Freshman pitcher Ashlinn Hamilton made her pitching debut and collected the complete game with four strikeouts in 5.0 innings. She allowed one run off three hits. She retired the first seven batters she faced.
  • Kasey Flores's two-run home run in the first inning was her second of the season and 42nd of her LCU career.
  • Ally Oyanguren produced her first home run of the season, hitting the grand slam in the third inning. It is LCU's firs slam of the season (LCU had three grand slams last season).
  • LCU had 20 players participate in the game and 13 had at least one hit (17 had at-bats).
  • The Lady Chaps were 2-for-2 with the bases loaded and 10-for-12 with runners in scoring position (Berkeley Quinn was 2-for-2 with runners in scoring position).
  • LCU's 17 runs were the most since scoring 23 (ironically against Newman) on Feb. 24, 2019 in Lubbock.

HISTORICAL NOTE
The win marked LCU's sixth consecutive win over Newman in the all-time series. LCU is 21-3 all-time against Newman (12-1 at home). It was second-ever meeting as non-conference foes (Newman and LCU used to be in the Heartland Conference together).

Game 2

LCU Highlights: Turning Point:
Tiarra Delrosario's two-run double in the third inning woke up the LCU bats, as LCU scored all seven of their runs from the third-sixth innings.

How it Happened:
UNK's Sydney Thomas had held LCU to one hit over two innings, but LCU led off the bottom of the third inning with singles from Banales and Riley Flores to setup Delrosario's two-run double (her second double of the game). Banales and Flores struck again in the fourth inning with back-to-back doubles for a 3-0 LCU lead. continuing with the script, Banales and Flores led off the sixth inning with leadoff singles, which were followed by singles from Quinn and Delrosario, as LCU's first four batters hit singles. Delrosario's single plated a pair of runs. Like the first game Saturday, LCU's final run came off a RBI from Lunsford, who hit a sac-fly.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Taylor Franco claimed her first win of the season in the circle (1-1), which marked her 57th in her LCU career (third in program history) and it was her second complete game of the season (52nd of her career, which is second in program history). Franco went 7.0 innings and allowed a run off five hits and struck out nine batters. Franco forced Newman into 10 groundouts (two fly-outs).
  • Riley Flores and Hope Banales each went 3-for-3, and Tiarra Delrosario also had a three-hit game going 3-for-4 at the dish. Delrosario posted a career-high mark in RBI with four (matched a career high in doubles in a game).
  • Hope Banales was 2-for-2 reaching base in leadoff at-bats and Flores was 3-for-3 with runners on base.

HISTORICAL NOTE
LCU moved to 4-0 all-time against Nebraska Kearney and 4-0 all-time against the Lopers, and all games have been played in Lubbock.
