KINGSVILLE, Texas (March 11, 2023) – Lubbock Christian University's
Kamryn Gibbs, who entered the series with four RBI on the season, produced six RBI Saturday in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader split at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The No.10 Lady Chaparrals fell 6-4 in the opener, but rebounded with a 10-0 win in five innings.

Turning Point:
Skylar Herrera hit a one-out double in the third inning while leading 4-3. LCU left her stranded and the double would end up being the final hit in the game for the Lady Chaps.
How it Happened:
TAMUK opened the game with a three-run first inning. The Javelinas first two batters had hits, setting up three-hole hitter, Kayla Gonzales, hitting a sac-fly RBI. The next two batters reached setting up an RBI on a fielder's choice and the final run of the inning scoring on a first-and-third double steal.
Hope Banales led off the second inning for LCU with a double. She would score the opening run on a two-RBI single by
Kamryn Gibbs.
Amanda Valdiviezo followed with a double to right-centerfield, which tied the game at 3-3.
Sydnee Bowlin grounded out to score Gibbs for a 4-3 advantage.
Beth Montes came in as a relief pitcher in the third inning and after allowing a one-out double by Herrera, she did not allow a hit to the final 15 LCU batters. Breanna Carr had a leadoff single leading to the tying run for TAMUK in the third inning, and they had two-out RBI-singles from Jory Cervantes (fourth inning) and Natalie Rodriguez (fifth inning) for the go-ahead runs.
Inside the Numbers:
- Taylor Franco, coming off Wednesday's no-hitter, took the loss (9-6) allowing six runs off nine hits in six innings. She did collect the complete game, which was her 11th of the season and 61st of her career.
- LCU fell to 1-7 when the opposition scores first and 1-4 when allowing a run in the first inning.
- Berkeley Quinn's six-game hit streak ended, which was actively leading the team at game's start.
- The Lady Chaps were 1-for-7 getting the leadoff aboard and 0-for-7 in two-out at-bats.

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
LCU sent 10 batters to the plate in the fifth inning, which led to six runs off five hits and LCU was able to move into position for the run-rule win.
How it Happened:
Riley Flores opened the scoring for LCU with a two-run single in the second inning with two outs for a 2-0 advantage. LCU had another two-run inning in the fourth inning, spurred by a two-run home run by
Kamryn Gibbs over the left field fence. It came as LCU took advantage of a TAMUK miscue. The prior batter,
Victoria Owens had struck out for the third out but was able to reach base to prolong the inning.
Tiarra Delrosario and
Hope Banales hit back-to-back doubles to leadoff the fifth inning. LCU loaded the bases and
Riley Lunsford drew a bases-loaded walk for LCU's first of six runs in the inning. Owens had a bases-loaded single and Gibbs had a two-run single with the bases still loaded. Flores completed a 3-for-3 performance with her third RBI of the game before
Ally Oyanguren notched LCU's last RBI of the game.
Inside the Numbers:
- Maxine Valdez improved to 8-2 in the circle this season (27-11 in her career). She recorded her fourth shutout of the season (seventh of her career) and seventh complete game (14th of her career). She has allowed five hits over 12.0 scoreless innings in her last two starts (18 strikeouts in the 12 innings).
- Kamryn Gibbs hit her third home run of the season and 10th of her career. Her four-RBI performance was a career high. She had six on the afternoon, as she entered the day with four on the season.
- Hope Banales had a double in each game and has a team-best 12 on the season. She has hit a double in four consecutive games.
- Gibbs and Banales now co-lead the team with a five-game hit streak. Banales actively leads the team with reach base safely in seven consecutive games.
- LCU was 6-for-10 (.600) as a team with runners in scoring position, 5-for-6 scoring the runner at third base with less than two outs and 3-for-4 with the bases loaded.
- Riley Flores was 3-for-3 with three RBI. The freshman's second three-hit game and her first multi-RBI performance of her collegiate career.

- The win was LCU's 16th of the season of a win margin of at least five runs.

LCU moved to 6-5 all-time against TAMUK and they are 4-2 all-time at Hubert Field. TAMUK holds a 4-2 series advantage as conference opponents.
