LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
Second baseman Riley Flores made two key defensive plays in the sixth inning to lead to the victory. She ranged to her right rob Ashley Nickerson of a leadoff single. Later in the inning, with two runners on base (tying run at second base), Jennifer Gress hit a ball to Flores' right and she was able to glove-scoop it and shovel to Skylar Herrera (shortstop), who rifled it to first base for an inning-ending double play.

How it Happened:
LCU was off to a sluggish start defensively in the second inning. A leadoff hit and error marked the first of three consecutive batters to reach base safely for ENMU. Gress and Jokaira Paredes each hit infield ground balls for an RBI and the Greyhounds took a 2-0 lead.

ENMU had three hits in the second inning, but LCU pitcher Taylor Franco settled down to retire nine consecutive batters. Meanwhile LCU came back with a two-run bottom of the third inning. Sydnee Bowlin, Berkeley Quinn and Tiarra Delrosario each singled to load the bases, which setup a sacrifice fly RBI by Kasey Flores. Hope Banales followed with a two-out single to tie the game 2-2.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, LCU took the lead with a solo home run by Kamryn Gibbs with two outs.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Taylor Franco improved to 7-5 on the season, while registering her 63rd career win (63-29). In the process, she claimed her ninth complete game (59th of her career). In 7.0 innings, she allowed two runs off five hits and struck out six batters.
  • Kamryn Gibbs connected on her second home run of the season and ninth of her LCU career.
  • LCU improved to 3-2 in one-run games and the meeting marked the fifth (of 40) resulting in a one-run game.
  • Kasey Flores hit her first sacrifice fly of the season. LCU has seven sac flies this season and all by different individuals.
  • LCU claimed their first win of the season when the opponent scores first (1-6). They also had their first win (1-5) when trailing after two innings.
