LCU Stays Alive in LSC Championship

Chaps Shut Out Patriots in Elimination Game

SAN ANGELO, Texas – No. 4-seed Lubbock Christian University upset No. 3-seed UT Tyler 7-0 Friday morning at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium, remaining alive in the LSC Baseball Championship.

Aydan Alger and Coleson Abel combined for LCU's fifth shutout of the season against a UTT team that came into the game leading the conference in batting average. Alger was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits across five innings and striking out five. He moved to 8-1 on the year with the win.

In relief, Abel pitched four innings with just one hit allowed, also striking out five. He allowed only two baserunners his entire time on the mound, earning his second save of the year in the process.

Meanwhile, the Chap offense was a fan of the even innings, scoring at least one run in all of them. Nate Van Maanen opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with a leadoff home run. LCU's first basemen had a great game at the plate, collecting two other hits, both of which drove in runs.

Jarred Gibson added his own solo shot in the fourth inning and also went 3-for-5 at the plate on the day. Carson Ogilvie and Brevin McCool both added RBI doubles in the frame.

Van Maanen drove in a run in the sixth and another in the eighth for the final total of seven.
