Chaps Host South Dakota Mines Thursday Afternoon

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University men's soccer team returns to action this Thursday as they take on South Dakota Mines.

LAST TIME OUT  
CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • The Chaps are off to a 2-0-1 start to begin the season. LCU hasn't been unbeaten through the first three games of a season since a 4-0 start in 2019.
  • LCU is averaging 2.33 goals per game and allowing 1.67.
  • The Chaps are averaging 14.3 shots per game with a .442 shots on goal percentage.
  • Six different Chaps have found the back of the net through the first three games.
  • Preseason defensive player to watch Jelle Born will make his season debut.
 
SIXTH SENSE
  • Saimon Gjeci, Nako Amare, Pierluigi Paradiso, Enzo Jaques, Ezequiel Fidabel, and Lucas Carli are the six Chaps who have scored this season.
  • Gjeci is the only player who has scored multiple goals in 2023.
  • Of the six goal scorers three are new members of the LCU soccer team. (Gjeci, Amare, Paradiso).
  • This offensive explosion comes without goals from 2022 D2CCA All-Region and LSC First Team All-Conference selection Pablo Galietero Diez. Pablo has been held scoreless through the first three games after scoring nine goals a season ago.
 
LIMITLESS LUCAS & SUPER SAIMON
  • Lucas Carli and Saimon Gjeci are the Chap leaders in points this season with four points apiece.
  • Gjeci's points come from goals against Fort Lewis and MSU Denver.
  • Carli's lone goal came against MSU Denver, but he has recorded two assists through three games.
 
FURTHER BACK
  • The Lubbock Christian men's soccer program began in 2010 with a 3-1 win against the University of the Southwest (N.M.). On Nov. 9, 2021, in the opening round of the LSC Tournament, the Chaps won their 100th match in program history, rolling over UT Permian Basin 6-0.
  • The Chap program enters the 2023 season with an overall record of 108-89-27.

NEW YEAR, NEW TEAM
  • LCU will feature 17 new players on the 2023 roster. Of those new players, four are true freshman, while the other 13 are transfers from either the junior college ranks or other universities.
  • It is a diverse group, with six players from Texas, three from England, two from Italy, two from Spain, and the rest from France and Botswana internationally, along with new faces from Colorado and Arizona in the states.
 
THE SERIES WITH SOUTH DAKOTA MINES
  • LCU is 1-1 all-time against the Hardrockers.
  • Last season the Chaps routed South Dakota Mines 4-0.
 
SCOUTING THE HARDROCKERS
  • South Dakota Mines is off to a 0-4 start in 2023.
  • Last time out they fell 2-1 to fellow Lone Star Conference member Texas A&M International.
  • They have been outscored 9-2 this season.
  • Their opponents are averaging 2.25 goals per game.
  • Will Mauritsen and Parker Yocom scored goals for the Hardrockers.
  • Mines played two goalkeepers through the first four games. As Daniel Freitas and Kole Villescas have both started two games each.
  • They were picked 11th in the RMAC preseason poll after a 1-14-3 record in 2022.
  • On Aug. 6, 2023 Mines announced Bill Schaefer as their interim Head Coach.
 
A WIN WOULD
  • Give the Chaps their third win of the season.
  • Bring LCU's record against Mines to 2-1 all-time.
  • Give LCU their 112th win in program history.
