DENVER, Colo. - The Lubbock Christian University women's soccer team secured their first win of the 2023 season Thursday night (Sept. 6), beating Regis 3-2. Junior
Lexi De La Cruz shined for the Lady Chaps scoring two goals and adding an assist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Chaps got on the board early when
Emma Best sent a long pass into the box and De La Cruz poked it over the Regis goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net.
In the 12th minute, the Rangers evened the score when Madeline Gardner scored off an assist from Alex Bear.
The Lady Chaps answered right back in the 17th minute. De La Cruz dribbled the ball passed Ranger defenders and into the box. She made a perfect pass to
Emily Douglas who put it away.
The scored remained 2-1 going into halftime.
In the 59th minute, De La Cruz scored her second goal of the night ripping a shot passed the Ranger goalkeeper. This extended the Lady Chap lead to two goals.
Regis would make a late push as Alex Bear would cut the lead in the 89th minute.
LCU was able to hold off Regis for the final minute of play and secured their first win of the 2023 season.
GAME NOTES
- Freshman Kara Murray faced 19 Ranger shots, making an astounding 10 saves.
- Emma Best recorded her first career assist.
- This marks De La Cruz's fourth career game with five or more points and fourth career multi goal game.

The Lady Chaps return home to Lubbock to play New Mexico Highlands on Saturday (Sept. 9). Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The Lady Chap seniors will be recognized on the field before the game.
