Chaps Clash with No. 4 DBU Saturday Afternoon in the Hub City

| By:
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University Men's Basketball team welcomes 4th ranked Dallas Baptist to the Rip Griffin Center Saturday afternoon.

RV Lubbock Christian (14-5, 9-2) vs No. 4 Dallas Baptist (15-2, 9-2)
Saturday January 27, 2024 – 3:00 p.m. CT
Lubbock, Texas – Rip Griffin Center

The Series
Saturday will be the 36th meeting all-time between the Chaps and Patriots. DBU has dominated the series, holding a 25-11 record over LCU. The Chaps went on the road and defeated DBU 73-69 last season, but had lost five straight before last season's matchup.

 About Dallas Baptist
  • The Patriots are in their 19th season with Head Coach Dr. Blake Flickner at the helm.
  • DBU comes into Saturday with a 15-2 record and ranked No. 4 in the nation.
  • The Patriots are 9-2 in LSC play and sit atop the East division.
  • Cameron Kahn is leading the way for DBU, averaging 20.9 points and 7 rebounds a night.
  • Kahn is the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week.
  • The Patriots score 92.1 points per game while shooting 50.3 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from behind the arc.
Last Time Out – LCU
It was another hot shooting night for Ethan Duncan as he dropped 16 points, leading LCU past UT Tyler.
The Chaps had three players score in double figures, led by Duncan, who connected on four three-pointers. Najeeb Muhammad added 13 points and four assists and Kendall Dow chipped in as well with 12 points off the bench.

LCU's defense held the Patriots to only 18.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Chaps also limited Bryce Roberts to 0-of-7 shooting from downtown and six points in the game. The Patriots did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with four offensive rebounds and managed four second chance points while LCU cleared 23 defensive rebounds.

Last Time Out – DBU
On Thursday, No. 4 DBU suffered its second loss of the season at the hands of No. 1 West Texas A&M, 93-79, in Canyon, Texas. A strong second-half performance from the Buffs that saw them outscore the Patriots 36-24 over the final 14-and-a-half minutes proved the difference and kept DBU from gaining momentum in the second half.

Down 45-36 to start the second period, a Kahn jumper would cut the Buffs lead to two. WT answered with an 18-2 run over five minutes, extending their lead to 18. The Buffs kept DBU outside arm's reach for the bulk of the half, even as the Patriots opened up a 7-0 run with 7:03 left to play. Despite the late surge, DBU could not complete a comeback and ultimately fell to the Buffs, 93-79.

A Win Would
  • Give the Chaps a 15-5 overall record and 10-2 in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Be the 236th win of the Coach Duncan era.
  • Be the Chaps third win this season over a top-10 team.
