Chaps Battle Midwestern State on the Road Saturday Afternoon

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University men's basketball team continues Lone Star Conference Play with a road matchup against Midwestern State Saturday afternoon.

The Series
Saturday will be the 45th meeting all-time between the Chaps and Mustangs. MSU has controlled the series holding a 29-15 record over LCU. The two teams split the season series last season. The Chaps have struggled on the road against MSU, holding a 6-17 record inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The Mustangs have won 8 of the last 10 meetings overall.
 
About Midwestern State
  • The Mustangs are in their 5th season with Head Coach Justin Leslie at the helm.
  • MSU comes into Saturday's game with an 8-4 record and are 2-4 in Lone Star play.
  • The Mustangs are 0-2 in the LSC West Division, falling to Cameron and West Texas A&M.
  • Mason Gibson is leading the way for the Mustangs, averaging 15 points and 2.6 rebounds a game.

Last Time Out – LCU
LCU went into halftime trailing Cameron 45-36, but exploded offensively hitting 12 second half threes to claim their seventh consecutive win Thursday night. 

The Chaparrals had five players score in double figures, led by Ethan Duncan, who scored a career high 23 points. Aaron Gonzales tacked on 19 points on 5-of-8 shooting from behind the arc, and Ty Caswell chipped in as well with 15 points and two steals. 

After shooting 50 percent (15-of-30) from the field in the opening period, The Chap defense held Cameron (8-4, 4-2) to just 10-of-27 (37 percent) shooting in the final 20 minutes. LCU limited the Aggies to four total made three-pointers in the contest. 
 
Last Time Out – Midwestern State
Midwestern State held No. 4-ranked West Texas A&M 13 points below its scoring average, but the Buffaloes held the Mustangs to 37.5 percent shooting from the field in a 72-67 victory at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Thursday night.

Midwestern State suffered its third consecutive defeat and fell to 8-4 for the season with a 2-4 record against Lone Star Conference opponents. West Texas A&M extended its winning streak to eight games and improved to 12-1 overall. The Buffaloes remain undefeated in conference play at 6-0.
 
Pierre Sanders was the leading scorer for the Mustangs with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field and dished out six assists. Mason Gibson was 5 of 10 from the field and scored 14 points in the loss.
 
A Win Would
  • Give the Chaps a 11-3 overall record and 6-0 in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Give LCU a 2-0 LSC West Division record.
  • Be the 232nd win of the Coach Duncan era.
  • Extend the Chap's win streak to eight games.
