LUBBOCK, Texas (October 22, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University returns back to Lubbock and welcomes West Texas A&M to the LCU Soccer & Track Complex Wednesday to renew the Rivalry on the Range in a lone Star Conference battle.

Lubbock Christian enters Wednesday's matchup with a 5-4-4 overall and 2-2-2 Lone Star Conference record. On Saturday, the Chaparrals gained a 2-0 victory on the road against Oklahoma Christian, their second consecutive conference road win. The Chaparrals are 1-2-3 at home this season, with their lone win coming on Sept. 7 against Adams State.
West Texas A&M brings a 2-6-4 overall and 0-2-3 conference record into the match. In their last match, the Buffaloes fell 2-1 against Dallas Baptist in Dallas. Furthermore, WTAMU has not won a match since Sept. 21, when they downed Hawaii Pacific 4-0 in Nampa, Idaho. However, both of the Buffaloes wins this season have come on the road.
The Chaparrals and the Buffaloes are long time rivals, hosting the Rivalry on the Range each time they face off. On the men's soccer side of the rivalry, there have been 19 total meetings between the schools. West Texas A&M has a narrow 10-8-1 edge against Lubbock Christian, and the Buffaloes won the most recent matchup 5-0 in Lubbock on Oct. 7, 2023. However, Lubbock Christian is 5-3 at home in the series, with their last win coming on Sept. 17, 2022.
Lubbock Christian is led offensively by reigning Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Justin Martinez. Martinez scored both goals in Saturday's match against Oklahoma Christian, which brought his season total to five. Along with two assists, this gave Martinez a point total of 12 in his first year with Lubbock Christian. Supporting the Chaparral offense, Manu Nunez continues to rank 12th in the conference with three assists. In front of the net, Connor Pettigrew continues to have one of the best seasons in the Lone Star. Pettigrew ranks within the top ten of every statistical category in the conference, as he is eighth in goals against average (1.615), second in shutouts (5), sixth in save percentage (71.2%), first in total saves (52) and third in saves per game (4.00).
West Texas A&M is led offensively by Matteo Landais, who ranks tenth in points (8) and ninth in goals (4) in the Lone Star. Similarly to Pettigrew, Buffalo goalkeeper Bryce Cottle ranks within the top of the conference in nearly every statistical category. Cottle is sixth in goals against average (1.314), seventh in save percentage (70.4%) and seventh in saves per game (2.71).
Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M will have first touch at approximately 7:30 p.m. from the LCU Soccer and Track Complex in the 2024 edition of the Rivalry of the Range.
