Lubbock Christian Goes Scoreless in San Antonio

Chaps Fall in Lone Star Conference Opener

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas (October 2, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University fell 3-0 to St. Mary's in both teams' Lone Star Conference opener Wednesday at Sigma Beta Field. The Chaparrals drop to 3-3-2 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play, while the Rattlers improved to 5-2-2 and 1-0-0.

How it Happened
St. Mary's struck first at the 30-minute mark through Adam Aboohamidi, assisted by Calum Murdoch. Eight minutes later, Cooper Stephens doubled the lead with assists from Enzo Jaques and Juan Jose Valdez Lopez. Gianluca Fiorini added an insurance goal in the second half, with Valdez Lopez picking up his second assist.

Game Notes
  • Lubbock Christian was outshot 16-8 by St. Mary's.
  • Goalkeeper Connor Pettigrew recorded five saves to increase his season total to 34.
  • The Chaps were shutout for a second consecutive game for the first time this season.
  • LCU fell to 8-3-4 all-time in conference openers and 3-1-2 in LSC openers. It was their first loss in a conference opener since falling to Rogers State on Sept. 15, 2017.

The Chaparrals will look to rebound and attain their first conference win, as they welcome St. Edward's to the LCU Soccer & Track Complex. The Hilltoppers are coming off a stunner over No.12 Midwestern State, winning 5-0 in Austin. They boast a record of 3-3-1 and 1-0 in Lone Star action.
