GREENWOOD, Ind. (November 19, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University had four members of its men's soccer program honored with CSC Academic All-District selections, which were announced on Thursday, November 19. This marks the third time in program history that the Chaparrals have received recognition and is the first time since the 2022 season.
Alejo Garcia, Kade McKinzie, Connor Pettigrew and Yannis Sapim were all honored for their hard work both inside the classroom and on the pitch.
Garcia was selected after starting all but one of 17 matches for the Chaparrals. The Senior defender from Spain recorded one goal and one assist, totaling three points for the year. Off the pitch, Garcia had impressive statistics in his academic work, as he recorded a 3.91 GPA while studying exercise science.
McKinzie appeared in 16 of 17 matches for Lubbock Christian, starting seven of those. Throughout the season, he recorded six shots and played 676 minutes. In the classroom, the Junior from Gilbert, Ariz. had a 3.64 GPA while studying information systems technology in his first year at Lubbock Christian.
Pettigrew was stalwart for the Chaparrals this season, as he was only one of two players to start every match for Lubbock Christian this season. The Senior goalkeeper had 68 saves, which was second most in the Lone Star Conference, a save percentage of 72.3% and had an average of 1.529 in goals against average. In his last academic year, Pettigrew held a 3.90 GPA while pursuing a degree in accounting.
Sapim rounds out the Chaparrals selections after appearing in 16 matches and starting 15 for Lubbock Christian this season. The Graduate Student from France had a lone goal for the Chaparrals this season and played 1177 minutes over the course of the year. While working toward a Master of Teaching degree, Sapim had a perfect 4.00 GPA.
All four of the Chaparrals selections will advance to the voting ballot for CSC All-America teams. There will be first, second and third team honorees, with the final results slated for announcement in early December.
