DENVER, Colorado (November 9, 2024) – Five Chaps finished in double-figures and Lubbock Christian shot 56.7 percent from behind the arc in the second half, but it wasn't enough to down Regis, which came away with a 92-83 win on Saturday night.
Â
Ethan Duncan led LCU with a season-high 25 points, 21 of which came on seven made three-pointers. The seven made threes ties his career-high, which was set against Angelo State on Jan. 14, 2024.
Â
Sean Murphy added in 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting, Amondo Miller Jr. finished in double-figures for the fourth consecutive game with 12, and Najeeb Muhammad chipped in 11 points and led the team with six assists and Jaylen Thompson finished with 10.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
A back-and-forth start led to a tie game at the under-12 media timeout thanks to a three-pointer by Jaylen Thompson to make it 17-all. Regis was able to create a little breathing room with five minutes left in the half thanks to an 8-2 burst, but the Chaps didn't go into the break without a fight.
Â
Having come off the bench at the 7:46 mark, Murphy found his rhythm with just under three minutes to play in the period. He hit a jumper, a three-pointer and an and-one layup, and Muhammad added a three of his own to send LCU into the break down just one at 36-35.
Â
For the second game in a row, Duncan came out to start the second half on fire, hitting four three-pointers in the first five minutes to put the Chaps ahead by as many as three, but the Rangers continued to answer. Regis shot it well for the entire game, but was particularly on fire from beyond the arc in the second half, hitting on 9-of-14 attempts (64.3 percent).
Â
Timely shots from the Chaps helped them keep pace with the Rangers for a while, but Kobe Sanders hit three straight three-pointers with four minutes to play to increase the gap to six.
Â
Thompson hit one final LCU three with 2:32 left to keep LCU within striking distance, but the Rangers got in the bonus shortly after and were able to ice the game at the charity stripe.
