McKINNEY, Texas (February 24, 2024) - In Frisco, Texas, the Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaparrals opened the day with a thrilling 4-3 win over metropolitan State of Denver, which required a third-set win in the clinching match by
Axelle Jacquemin for a second consecutive match. Their busy day came to an easier close in McKinney, as LCU swept Pratt Community College 7-0 to move to 9-0 overall this season in duals play.
Â
Jacquemin's role against MSUD started early in the dual, as she teamed with
Anastasiia Opolska in No.1-doubles competition and claimed a 6-3 match win.
Andrea De Bernardo &
Anastasiia Khrustaleva teamed together in No.2-doubles and edged the No.4 team in the West Region (Lilly Stienemeier / Emily Hafner) 7-5 to give LCU a 1-0 dual lead with the doubles point.
Â
MSUD tied the dual at 1-1 winning No.1-singles play, but LCU responded with two-set wins by Opolska (No.5-singles) and
Maya Adler (No.4-singles) for a 3-1 lead. Dramatics ensued, as No.3 and No.6-singles matches went in favor of the Roadrunners to tie the dual at 3-3. Jacquemin (No.2-singles) played Kim Heddes, who took the opening set on a tiebreaker, and rallied with wins in the second and third set to claim the singles point to clinch the dual for LCU.
Â
The win, at Liberty High School Tennis Courts in Frisco, Texas, was LCU's second win of the season over MSUD (defeated them 4-0 on Sept. 16, 2023 in Pueblo, Colo.). Jacquemin's clincher provided clinching wins by Jacquemin in consecutive matches, as she had the clinching win in a 4-3 victory Friday over Harding.
Â
The Lady Chaps ventured to McKinney to face Pratt Community College at Emerson High School Tennis Courts. They faced a Beavers squad that was shorthanded with only four available players. The predicament meant LCU only had to win one doubles match and they had two free points in singles play.
Â
Adler &
Taylor Nichols (No.1-doubles) and
Allison Lent &
Lauren Shinneman (No.2-doubles) each won their singles matches and LCU took the doubles point for a 1-0 advantage. Each doubles team was playing together for the first time this season.
Â
Tack on the unavailable players for No.5 and No.6 singles matches and LCU's lead was quickly 3-0 before a singles match was played. LCU had no problems in singles play, as No.1-singles
Oshini Herath (6-2, 6-2), No.2-singles
Mariia Koroleva (6-1, 6-0), No.3-singles Nichols (6-1, 6-0) and No.4-singles Lent (6-0, 6-0) each cruised in their matches to lead to LCU's sweep.
Â
The Lady Chaps claimed their fourth sweep of the season (second 7-0 sweep of the season). It was their sixth sweep since the program's rebirth (last season) and fourth 7-0 sweep.
Â
Koroleva (6-0), on a five-match win streak in singles, and Nichols (2-0) remain unbeaten in duals singles matches with their wins, and Lent grabbed her first collegiate singles win with her victory. Adler has won four consecutive singles matches and has a program-leading 13 victories this season (13-2). She is 7-0 in duals singles play. In doubles, Jacquemin / Opolska teamed for their team-leading 14
th win (14-3) and are 6-1 in duals doubles competitions. Â
Â
LCU returns to the Dallas area this week, as they face Southern Arkansas Friday and Southeastern Oklahoma State Saturday.
